The private outdoor onsen was great . But the rooms were kind of old and some of the closets were stuffed with irrelevant things that look dirty. Some of the staff were not attentive or not capable.

Everything about this property is outstanding from the gorgeous gardens and the comfortable onsen to the helpful staff and convenient location with shuttle into town. The food was some of the best we experienced during our visit to Japan. Our room (in the main building) was exquisite. We appreciated the efforts to respect and highlight the building’s history.
