This 1914 ryokan is one of the best I have stayed at in Japan (traveling in Japan for 2 months.) The staff were kind and generous, helping me many times over the 4 1/2 days. The cabins (there are 9 different) are true to their history, maintained in the traditional ryokan style. The free breakfast is a 10 course kaiseki feast, beautiful and delicious. And most impressive are the vertically landscaped gardens, with paths of massive cut granite stones, lined with several stone lanterns. A 5 star experience, and just a 7 minute bus ride with a 10 minute train ride from Kurashiki.
