四季亭 Shikitei

The people here were so helpful and friendly! From the moment you step inside they make you feel welcome. Location is great, just outside Nara Park and easy walking distance to the bus terminal and trains. Our room was large and had a separate ‘living room’ so we could stay up after our son slept. We used the onsen and enjoyed it. Having breakfast and dinner in a yukata was also a good experience. They provided a small yukata for our 4-yo son and he loved wearing it. The dinner was very elaborate and prepared with care (mine vegetarian). Our son was served a special kids’ meal which was amazing (although way too much for him to finish).

There were no curtains or blinds; we were woken up very because of daylight. The futons were thin, we weren’t super comfortable on them. Our room was in a busy road, which we had not expected and caused quite some noise - we were also bothered by headlights shining into our room during the night. At breakfast, we were able to choose one drink, which was served only after we finished our breakfast. We would have liked both a juice and a coffee and to have a drink a bit sooner. Our stay here was a special experience, but I feel at this price point room comfort could be improved a bit!

Amazing location right on the deer park and a close walk to the pond, and temples! This is a truly authentic Japan experience! We loved the onsen, welcome matcha and mochi, in room massages, and very hospitable service. Comfortable, large size room. Quiet and walking distance to everything to make the most of your stay! The lodge is a bit run down and the food was not very good and quite expensive. I wouldn’t order the dinner again.
