I had a one-night stopover in Cabin 3 of Péniche MaPensée on my way to Oberstdorf. Staying on this canal barge was every bit as quirky as I'd hoped (with a wheelhouse for a kitchen), and the accommodation did not stint on everything necessary for a pleasant stay. There is even a little outside table and chairs to enjoy a drink in the setting sun.
Be aware that there is a 200 metre walk along the canal path to get to the barge, and the steep steps down to the living area probably make the accommodation unsuitable for anyone with limited mobility.
I was not sure how busy the parking area might get at certain times, but this was not a problem during my stay.
