The Rose and Crown

Our bedroom was cosy with wonderful old beams, quirky electrics (which added to the charm) and a modern bathroom.

In our bedroom there was a lot of noise from passing traffic, which didn't bother us, but might be a problem for some guests. Breakfast was basic but OK. The food was good "pub grub" but management might like to think about changing the "specials" daily as these were the same every evening, resulting in us choosing to eat elsewhere one night. The piped music was also the same every day (Dire Straits) though the barman obligingly changed it at our request the second evening; however, Dire Straits were back the next evening! We felt there was a lack of atmosphere in the bar, but this was possibly due to the time of year (September), and our stay did not include Saturday or Sunday which might have had more of buzz.

Accessible to bus route

Excellent location for us. Breakfasts were beautifully cooked and served with a friendly smile and chat. The bed and room were very comfortable.

Nothing could have been bettered.

Pub in a convenient location and plenty of parking. Room nicely presented and basic toiletries provided. Nice coffee bags, tea bags and milk replenished daily. Owners friendly.

It was disappointing to find that although breakfast was included according to Booking.com you had to pay if you wanted anything cooked and the selection was otherwise limited. This needs to be made clear at the booking stage. Some of the pub seating is really stained which is a bit off-putting. Whilst room was serviced daily biscuits were only provided on day one which seemed a bit mean! We stayed during hot weather and so unfortunately it was really noisy with the traffic passing directly outside the open windows. And given the heat maybe a sheet could be provided as an alternative to a duvet. Maybe more pillows too - though maybe we could have had extra had we asked.
