Empire Hotel was a pleasant surprise. Recently updated large rooms with comfy bed and clean ensuite. Plenty of space to relax and unwind. Good location close to busses to central station. The pub downstairs has good woodfired pizza if you don't want to travel out.
The rooms could use a few hooks for towels to dry and an area separate from the basin for tea making facilities. The floorboards were rather loud but this is an older hotel so expected.

Huge rooms. Lovely comfy beds and great pillows. The pub downstairs has great food. The staff helped us to carry our luggage upstairs. Nice big en-suite. Everything was very clean.
No elevator. The light coming under the door in bedroom from hallway was rather bright. Shower needs a bit more water pressure.

Good location
One thing I did not like was that even when the “Do Not Disturb” sign was on, housekeeping staff still accessed the room to clean. I believe the privacy request should be respected unless there is an urgent reason to enter the room.
Communication could also be improved, especially as there was no reception on site. It was sometimes unclear who to contact or how to get assistance when needed.
