Less than 450m away downhill, the centre of Assos has good amenities that include a fresh bakery, two well-stocked mini-markets, several friendly tavernas and even a small beach for taking a cooling dip in the turquoise waters of the bay. Anyone ascending the steep footpath to Assos castle will be richly rewarded by breathtaking sea views of the Erissos Peninsula, north-west coastline and distant Greek mainland itself.

Edged by two majestic mountains the famous sandy beach of Myrtos is just 10.5km south or head northwards along the scenic coastal road to find sleepy villages such as Maganos (15km), further lovely beaches that include Alaties (17.5km) and Agia Jerusalem (18km) as well as the vibrant and famously picturesque harbour of Fiskardo (20km) which offers yachting, boat hire, inter-island ferries, sightseeing/scuba trips and an excellent choice of waterfront bars, cafes, shops and restaurants.
