Balestrate is a seaside town on the west coast of Sicily, on the border between the provinces of Palermo and Trapani, overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare. It is about 20 minutes from Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport and about 30 minutes from Trapani-Birgi Airport. Balestrate is a seaside town where you can still enjoy a peaceful atmosphere; mass tourism has not disrupted local customs and traditions, yet it remains a destination of particular tourist interest. During the day, visitors can take advantage of various amenities, including several grocery stores, restaurants, pubs, and ice cream shops, as well as the opportunity to sample local products (fish, cheeses, honey, olive oil, and wine). Nearby, you can visit the port of Castellamare del Golfo, the Selinunte Archaeological Park, the Temple of Segesta, the Baglio di Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, San Vito Lo Capo, the Segesta Thermal Baths, Erice, and the salt flats. You can take boat excursions to explore the rugged coastline of the Zingaro Nature Reserve, which offers one of the most breathtaking natural spectacles, and—if you’re lucky—even spot dolphins. Well-connected to the island’s major cities via the highway, you can reach Trapani, Marsala, and Mazara del Vallo in about 30 minutes, and Palermo—the island’s capital and a city of great historical, cultural, and gastronomic interest—in 30 minutes as well. Street food reigns supreme in traditional Sicilian cuisine.
