A nice destination for an excursion is the landmark of the town or the castle ruin Maienluft, which towers high above the town. In the town, the carnival has a long tradition, which even goes back to the Middle Ages. In addition to the Thuringian Forest, the open hills of the Vorderrhön invite you to wonderful hikes, and the Werratal bike trail leads directly through the town. Experience the nearby forest botanical plants, which are considered a rarity, and take city trips to Meiningen, Eisenach, Erfurt, Gotha, Weimar or Schmalkalden. On the Werra you can go kayaking or canoeing.
