This field lies adjacent to the 288 acres of Marsham Heath, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI). The name 'Ovens Mouth' hails from nearly 200 years ago, a time when fields were named to aid illiterate farm workers in distinguishing one from another, helping to prevent the accidental ploughing of the wrong fields or the misplacement of hedgerows.
