Luna Leaf

I had a great 3-night stay at Luna Leaf Hostel in Kandy. I visited in September, outside the main tourist season, so the hostel was fairly quiet, but this also made for a peaceful stay. I arrived around 5pm and check-in was straightforward. I was travelling with a friend I had met earlier in my trip who was also staying at Luna Leaf, although we had originally booked different room types. The staff were very accommodating and allowed us to stay in the same room, making a few quick changes to have the room ready for us. The rooftop was one of the highlights. It has great views over the surrounding area and is a nice place to relax, have some local food and watch the sunrise. Kandy's weather can be quite cloudy, so sunrise isn't always guaranteed, but the rooftop is still a great space. One of the staff members working around the rooftop was particularly helpful, providing advice on places to visit, the best times to go and information about buses from Kandy to Colombo. They were also friendly and welcoming throughout my stay. The location is excellent, with supermarkets, restaurants and other amenities nearby. Kandy Lake, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and other attractions are all within easy walking distance. The staff also recommended Yaka Lounge, which had excellent views over Kandy, beautiful evening colours and good pizza and drinks. The room was comfortable, with good beds and a clean, spacious bathroom. The hostel has an interesting layout, with access through a shop/restaurant from the main road and another entrance via the side road. Payment was also cash only at the end of my stay, so this is worth knowing in advance. Overall, a great stay and a very good base for exploring Kandy. I would recommend Luna Leaf to both solo travellers and couples.

One practical note is that the entrances have shutters which may be closed early in the morning. If you need to leave before around 7am, contact the staff using the phone number provided at check-in so they can assist with access.

Perfect room, cozy bed and really helpful staff. This place must be Kandy's best kept secret.
