Located on the banks of the Teme River in the midst of the breathtaking Welsh Marches is the historic market town of Ludlow. Ludlow Castle, at over 900 years old, is one of the first stone castles built in England, and it is just one of more than 500 listed buildings in the town that offer a fascinating range of architecture. The castle is now open year-round, and it plays host to a wide variety of events, such as festivals celebrating food, art, literature, and more. Located directly on the riverbank, below the castle, Millenium Green features a large public green and weir as well as high-quality indoor and outdoor dining options at the Green Cafe. The town of Ludlow has been hosting street markets since the 12th century. A weekly outdoor market is held in the town square on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays all year round. The 'Local to Ludlow' produce market on some Thursdays and an Antique & Flea market on some Sundays feature more than forty stalls selling a variety of goods, such as fresh produce, cheeses, books, and a selection of local crafts. In addition to being a shopper's and foodie's paradise, Ludlow also features an abundance of delicious restaurants. There are numerous restaurants and bars in town, as well as several high-end boutiques selling clothing and unique gifts. Church Stretton, Shrewsbury, and Hereford are all within driving distance from Ludlow, as are tourist hotspots like the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, the Severn Valley Railway, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, and Cardingmill Valley. Ludlow is perfect for a vacation at any time of the year.
