Spa & Sport Hotel Mar y Sol

Place is well adapted for those with disabilities. Pools have hoists, ramps and seats so everyone can enjoy a swim. Restaurant was well spaced to allow those in wheelchairs to move around with ease. Staff were very helpful and friendly and helped where they can even if it was buttering some toast. Me and a friend stayed a couple of days whilst visiting family, picked this place as cheapest and closest to where we needed to be. Glad to know places like this existing without breaking the bank so people with disabilities can enjoy Tenerife as well.

Really struggling to think of something I didn't like. Breakfast was very European but plenty of options so was happy enough.

Location. Check out has to be before 11am. If your flight is late there is an option to pay by hour to stay longer in an apartment at the hotel, rather than standing a day at the airport.

The biggest problem with this hotel is the complete lack of air conditioning. There is no air conditioning anywhere in the hotel, including the lobby, so there is nowhere to escape the heat. The fans provided are inadequate. The apartments with a ceiling fan do not even have a portable fan, so there is no effective way to cool down when the apartment becomes unbearably hot. I arrived at the hotel after 9 p.m. and was initially allocated a basement-level apartment. With temperatures inside reaching around 25–28°C, it was extremely hot, stuffy and poorly ventilated. Because there was no air conditioning, I left the patio door slightly open to let some air in. Within a few hours, the apartment was crawling with cockroaches and ants. When I reported the cockroaches to reception, I was told that this was "normal" for the time of year, being the end of September. Perhaps the hotel considers it normal, but it certainly wasn't acceptable to me. I spent hours dealing with Booking.com Customer Service to make a complaint. The following morning, I was moved to another apartment on the top floor, which resolved the cockroach and ant problem. However, the fundamental problem remained: the heat was unbearable. I did not have a single night of proper sleep throughout my stay because of it. The heat continued to seep into the apartment through the fully closed thermal curtains. The ceiling fan was useless, and even with the windows and balcony door wide open, it was still not possible to make the room temperature comfortable enough for sleeping. With no air conditioning, there was simply no effective way to cool the apartment down, particularly overnight. The bed comfort also leaves a lot to be desired, which certainly did not help when I was already struggling to sleep because of the heat. I was also left with a poor impression of the room allocation process.
