We had an unforgettable stay at this guesthouse. It was our first time visiting Japan, so we weren't sure what to expect from a traditional Japanese onsen guesthouse—sleeping on futons on a tatami floor, plus sharing a bathroom and toilet. We chose it because it has a car park and is in close proximity to several scenic hiking trails. In the end, it turned out to be the highlight of our trip.
From the start, we received a very warm welcome from Tomoka, one of the owners. She patiently explained how everything worked and was such a wonderful host. She even joined us one evening to share some sake, along with local insights on Japanese food and culture.
The guesthouse is spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated. Even with a shared common area, we never felt bothered by other guests. It is exceptionally well-equipped for making tea, coffee, or preparing your own meals (though we dined out, as there are several great cafes and restaurants nearby). Most rooms feature a display of handcrafted tiles. The walls are painted in soothing earthy and forest-green tones, while the sliding doors feature stylish Japanese motifs. The guesthouse as a whole maintains a wonderfully calm and relaxing atmosphere.
The shared onsen turned out to be remarkably private. The natural spring water quality is exceptional—you can actually see the mineral flakes floating in it. We tried other hot springs later in our journey, but none could compare to this one. There's no need to rinse off afterward; simply let your skin air dry, and it becomes remarkably soft. The delicate aroma of sulfur mixed with Hida cypress clings to your skin and clothes long after soaking. We ended up using the onsen every single day.
This is a guesthouse filled with a personal touch and heart. It was Tomoka and Kensaku’s dream to build a life in the mountains, and you can read their inspiring story in the copy left in each room. Their dream came true, and staying here made our dream holiday come true, too.

Location was peaceful n nice in Norikura area. Nice room, and shared space. Onsen was very good. Owners were nice. This is a new establishment.
Rooms upstairs need extra efforts for big luggage.
