Pack a picnic and head 8 miles to the National Trust's Fell Foot, where you can meander beside the lake and paddle in the shallows. Plan a trip to Kendal, 8.5 miles from the cottage.

Your bedrooms are arranged across the lower-ground and first-floor levels. Descend the slate staircase down to the first king-size bedroom, which has the luxury of an en-suite shower room. Another beautifully finished king-size can be found up on the first floor, together with a twin and the family bathroom. All three bedrooms have ample storage and a TV to ensure you can choose your own viewing.

Treat yourselves to afternoon tea out in the courtyard garden on fine days. This is also the perfect spot to sip a sundowner as each fabulous day away draws to a close. Unfortunately, this property has no parking, but guests can park in Broad Street Car Park, 0.5 miles by car or 350 metres on foot.
