Experienced hikers can take on England’s highest peak Scafell Pike (9.5 miles), or enjoy gentler family fell walks and thrilling mountain bike descents through the surrounding valleys. Go wild swimming in the cool waters of the River Esk. And find pretty Japanese gardens with a beautiful arched footbridge in hilly Giggle Alley (0.5 miles).

After a day of family cycles, lake swims or market town visits, the inviting living room is the place to gather and relax on cosy seating. Warm up with the heat from the wood burner and pick favourite films or sports to watch on the Smart TV with Sky, or on the DVD player. The living room also has a quiet snug area with further seating where you can simply relax with a good book or enjoy a mindful moment by a wood burner-effect electric fire; there’s a convenient ground-floor WC too. Walk through to the open-plan kitchen and dining area to prepare evening meals. The spacious kitchen is well-equipped with colourful wall tiles, a handsome range style traditional oven/grill for cooking and electric radiators keeping the kitchen cosy, a fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. Tuck into your home-cooked meal and make plans for a new day at the dining table which seats six.
