Welcome to Quers Haus, our vacation home in the historic center of Wolsfeld in the Southern Eifel.

This Trier-style Quereinhaus was built in 1866. During the restoration, it was important to us to preserve as much of the original structure and character of the house as possible. That’s why we didn’t transform it into a modern vacation home in a historic style, but instead sought to preserve the old house as it is.

The restoration was carried out using natural and eco-friendly materials such as clay, lime, straw, jute, and solid wood. Old building components and historic structures were preserved as much as possible.

In this way, Quers Haus combines history and atmosphere with the comfort people seek on vacation today.


Why is the house called “Quers Haus”?
The name isn’t a made-up vacation home name—it’s the house’s original name.

My great-grandfather, Quirin Schmitt, lived here with his family. “Quirin” became “Quer” in the Eifel dialect—and ever since, the house has been known in the village as “Quers Haus.” Even today, the family’s descendants are still called “Quers.”

So anyone who lives here is truly living in a house with a long history.


Living in a historic house
With about 75 m² of living space, the house can accommodate up to three people.

The bedroom, located on the upper floor, features a double bed and an additional single bed. Here, you can still experience the historic roof structure with its old beams firsthand.

The living area, kitchen, and bathroom are located on the first floor.

The kitchen is fully equipped and includes, among other things, a dishwasher.

The bathroom features a rain shower.
We have also deliberately chosen high-quality, natural materials for sleeping comfort: The mattresses, as well as the comforters and pillows, are from allnatura.

This means that, despite the historic atmosphere, you don’t have to sacrifice modern comfort.


Important: The house is old—and you’ll definitely notice it
We’d like to explicitly point out that the Quers Haus is not a modern, barrier-free vacation home.

The historic structure comes with a few unique features:
Some of the stairs are narrow and a bit steeper than you might be used to.
Some doors and doorways are lower than in modern houses.
There is a historic roof beam in the bedroom.
The bedroom is accessible only through the bathroom.
The house is not wheelchair-accessible, and climbing stairs is required.

These features are not design elements added later but are part of the house’s historic structure. We made a conscious decision to preserve as much of it as possible.

If you’re looking for a spacious, modern vacation home with clean lines and full accessibility, our Quers House is probably not the right choice for you.

If, on the other hand, you appreciate old houses, natural materials, historic details, and a special atmosphere, you’ll feel right at home here.


Courtyard and Garden
The house includes a courtyard and a garden, which you’re welcome to use.

Here you can sit in peace, read, have breakfast, or wind down in the evening after a day of hiking.


Discover the Südeifel
Wolsfeld is located between Bitburg and Echternach, Luxembourg, and is an excellent starting point for excursions.

There are numerous hiking and biking trails right in the surrounding area. The Südeifel Nature Park, the Teufelsschlucht, and the Müllerthal in Luxembourg are particularly worth seeing.

Trier, Germany’s oldest city, as well as the city of Luxembourg and the region’s numerous castles and palaces, are also easily accessible.

The Nimstal Bike Trail runs through the surrounding area. Other places to visit include the suspension bridge near Irrel, Vianden Castle, Weilerbach Castle, and Malberg Castle.


Wolsfeld
Wolsfeld is a real village—not a museum village, but not Berlin either.

The village has a bakery and a butcher shop with a small selection of groceries. For larger shopping trips, Bitburg or Irrel are good options.

People live in the village, there are farms, and accordingly, you may come across tractors or, during harvest season, combine harvesters. During rush hour, cars drive through the village.

Anyone seeking peace and quiet in the midst of a completely secluded landscape should be aware of this.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for an authentic little Eifel village as a starting point for nature and cultural experiences, you’ve come to the right place.


Who is Quers Haus intended for?
Quers Haus is particularly well-suited for people who are looking for a unique place with character and would rather stay in a historic, established house than in an anonymous vacation resort.

It’s perfect for couples and small families who enjoy hiking, biking, exploring historic sites, or simply spending a few quiet days in the Southern Eifel.

We’ve restored and furnished the house with a great deal of personal dedication. That’s why we hope to welcome guests who aren’t just looking for a place to stay, but who also enjoy learning a little bit about the history of the Eifel
