Aokidaira Little Retreat

Our guesthouse is an 18-year-old, 83-square-meter, one-story house situated on a hill called Aokidaira in Fujinomiya City.
The house features walls and floors made entirely of cedar planks and is furnished with antique pieces, including a wood-burning stove. These features create a very relaxed atmosphere.

The garden also features a cherry tree and a softscape of wild grasses, such as herbs. Guests can experience the unique charm of each season.
We accommodate only one group at a time so that guests can enjoy a relaxing stay.

【 Guests can stay for up to 54 hours.】
The minimum stay at the retreat is two nights and three days. With this basic plan, guests can stay for up to 54 hours—a major draw. Enjoy a relaxing stay without feeling rushed on your final day.

Check-in begins at 11:00 AM, and check-out is as late as 5:00 PM.

【 Wonderful View 】
From the window, you can see Mount Fuji, a part of the everyday scenery.
Even a short walk will take you to a viewpoint where you can see Mt. Fuji stretching all the way to its base—it’s truly magnificent.
Taking a walk around the house in the morning and evening air is also invigorating.

【 Accommodations 】
The bathroom features an Izu-stone floor, and guests can enjoy adding herbs to the bath. Guests can also experience traditional Japanese culture through features such as vintage tableware, hand-embroidered dishcloths, and bamboo baskets. Guests who appreciate traditional Japanese culture are very welcome.

【 Comfort at Bedtime 】
You can close the bedroom shutters while you’re in bed. This creates an environment that soothes all your senses.
The two-layer futons, consisting of a layer of hand-beaten cotton and a layer of urethane foam, are light and warm, ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep.
The futon sheets are made of 100% cotton. The towels are made in Imabari City, which is renowned for its high-quality towels.

【 Beverages and Food 】
The water used at the guesthouse is spring water from Mount Fuji, which is used to make coffee, tea, and other beverages. You are also welcome to pick seasonal herbs, vegetables, or even blueberries from the garden when they are in season. Basic seasonings are available.
If possible, we can provide guests with locally grown fresh vegetables and eggs, Fujinomiya rice, or bread from a nearby bakery at no charge.
We are also happy to recommend local restaurants for those who prefer dining out.
【 Guesthouse Rules 】
• Adults only: To ensure a quiet environment, guests must be 12 years of age or older. We recommend a maximum of two guests, with a limit of four.
•
• Indoor air quality: Smoking and strong perfumes are prohibited inside the house to protect the cedar planks.
•
• BBQ: Out of consideration for neighbors, we recommend barbecuing in the garden during daylight hours, or at the latest by 8:00 PM. Charcoal is provided free of charge. Just bring your favorite ingredients.

• About the owner: The owner lives on the same property. If you encounter any issues, please do not hesitate to contact the owner for assistance. Otherwise, guests’ privacy will be respected throughout their stay.

A small cottage crafted from natural materials by a master carpenter

A small cottage (approx. 86 ㎡) nestled within a spacious grounds(approx. 418 ㎡).From the walls and floors to the ceiling, no artificial materials such as vinyl wallpaper were used; instead, master temple carpenters meticulously crafted this comfortable cedar space using only natural materials.
The Japanese-style room adjacent to the living room—which features a wood-burning stove—offers a view of Mount Fuji, while the Japanese-style bedroom is equipped with “yukimi” sliding doors designed to view snow. The clean, functional kitchen and the bathroom featuring Izu stone are also highlights of this small cottage.
In a corner of the rustic garden, we’ve set up a mountain-hut-style barbecue pit.

Complies with Shizuoka Prefecture’s seismic standards, which are stricter than national standards.
