Welcome to The Wolf & Horseshoe at Russian River — our charming one-bedroom hideaway tucked beneath towering redwoods, just minutes from downtown Guerneville.

Part of our larger Wolf & Horseshoe cabin, this private lower-level guest suite feels like its own little escape. It has a separate entrance, private deck and fenced outdoor area — complete with a fire pit beneath the redwoods. Pour a glass of wine, light the fire and settle in among the trees. It’s one of those wonderfully tucked-away spots that feels much farther from town than it actually is.

Inside, the space is cozy, comfortable and thoughtfully designed. There’s a good-sized bedroom with lovely linens, a private bathroom and a living room anchored by a big blue velvet sectional — perfect for curling up after a day on the river, wine tasting or exploring the coast.

The kitchenette has everything you need for simple meals, including an oven, microwave, full-size refrigerator, coffee maker, cookware and kitchen essentials. Guests also have access to a washer and dryer in the adjacent shared garage.

But the real magic here is outside. The deck and fenced yard sit beneath soaring redwoods, creating a wonderfully private place for morning coffee, an afternoon with a book or evenings gathered around the fire pit. It’s peaceful, a little rustic and incredibly charming — our own hidden gem in the Russian River.

And when you’re ready to venture out, you’re just a five-minute drive from downtown Guerneville and close to Russian River beaches, Armstrong Redwoods, wonderful restaurants, wineries and some of our favorite corners of Sonoma County. Spend the day wine tasting, floating the river, wandering through the redwoods or heading out toward the Sonoma Coast — then come home to your own little retreat in the trees.

A few things to know:

This is a well-loved Russian River cabin, not a shiny new hotel — and that’s part of what we love about it. We’ve recently refreshed the space and filled it with comfortable, design-forward furnishings, thoughtful details and everything we think you need for an easy stay.

The private entrance is around the side/back of the house through a gate. It’s a little unconventional, but once you’re in, the apartment and its outdoor space are yours to enjoy.

The cabin sits high in the redwoods on a steep residential road. It’s close enough to walk down to the river, but the walk home is decidedly uphill! We enjoy it for the exercise, but most guests will find driving into town easiest. The road and driveway are also steep, so we recommend taking your time, particularly during rainy winter weather. (note- there are loads of houses and others who do it safely every day.. it can just be a little much when you first venture up!).

Depending on the dates of your stay, there may be guests staying in the main house upstairs. The spaces are completely separate, with your own entrance and outdoor area, although as with any downstairs apartment, you may occasionally hear light footsteps or minimal household sounds from above.
