Les Artistes Inn

The location is the best in the world. Right on Camino Del Mar with a view of the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are beautiful, and kind of funky and old and a little bit falling apart. Parking is a breeze, the people are nice, and they put out coffee and fruit in the morning and invite their guests into the common spaces. For me, it’s a very easy and comforting place to stay if you don’t mind a bit of gentle dilapidation. I’ve stayed here eight or 10 times and I love it.

Probably my attitude. California is in the middle of an aberrant October heat wave, and the room faces due west and it was hot. Obviously this is beyond anyone’s control.

A friend joined me the second night and the futon was made extra comfortable for her. The hair dryer died and I was given a replacement right away. I mostly walked while in Del Mar and the location was great! Loved the balcony/patio area attached.

The only thing that I noticed was a musty smell in bathroom. Wasn’t too fond of the black fixtures in shower area.

Super gracious host and property was serene and beautiful.

The location and views of the ocean were absolutely incredible! And the exterior and courtyard of the building were charming. The bed was comfortable as well.

Room cleanliness left a bit to be desired, cobwebs were visible and the walls could have used a good scrub and a repaint. Because of this, we chose not to get into the hot tub, but as a former owner of one, we realized quickly that the water level in the tub was down about 10 inches and the top of the filter exposed, leading us to believe it was either not maintained or there was a leak. At first, the fountain outside our room was lovely, but as night wore on, it was more annoying than calming because it was the only thing we could hear. Coincidentally, I had a nightmare that involved being rushed by flood waters. LOL
