Waipi'o Lodge

The rustic lodge is perfectly located on a quiet road with a sweeping view of the ocean.

The "outside" shower and toilet is not supplied with shampoo/soap as is the indoor shower. This means waiting for the indoor shower to be free before using the outdoor facility or bringing personal supplies.

We stayed in one of the large tents which we had really looked forward to and it lived up to our expectations - lovely and basic, no frills with simple comunal outdoor showers, toilet and kitchen area. We spoke and mixed with more other guests here then anywhere else we had stayed at over the previous month of travelling. The place is very relaxed. the local town is quirky with some great little places to eat (not many). The supermarket had a great range of food for us to bring back and cook for ourselves in the communal kitchen. Whilst the owners are around, they are not intrusive and let you get on with things yourself. Whilst it was raining some of the time we stayed, we remained dry and warm in the tent.

We were not sure if there was access down the hill to the sea - perhaps unlikely. A little bit more information about the owners land and limits would have been useful even although we explored a bit ourselves when nobody about.

It sounded like the owners were rearranging furniture all day and into the night. A fan was provided but the room was so hot and humid it was hard to sleep
