Jan Luyken Amsterdam

The breakfast was lovely, I asked to be catered as a gluten free coeliac and the chef very kindly made sure I had a safe lovely meal each day with gluten free bread, vegetarian jams, and a nice gluten free cake. I loved it. The chef was very kind and lovely which made our stay feel great, and because of her, breakfast was my favourite part of the stay. I liked that we got 1 free laundry bag service due to staying more 4 days. All staff are kind, warm, and welcoming. The hotel has a lovely peaceful breakfast area which makes for a nice start to the day, a calming living room with a fireplace and books, and a serenic outdoor area to enjoy when its warm. Our room was beautiful, with a balcony, high quality toiletries, a TV, and a fridge. Overall, the breakfast and staff made our stay lovely. The beds are comfortable and the AC is easy to use. The location is nice too - within the museum quarter, and walking distance from the beautiful Jordaan. The street is peaceful.

The cleaners tried to come in on a morning one time which we couldn't do so we missed housekeeping that day (which is fine because reception gave us clean towels when we asked). However it would have been nice if the cleaners housekeeping was always afternoons (sometimes it was). Sometimes the cleaners failed to empty our bins which sucked because there is only 1 small bin in the bathroom which ideally should be emptied everyday. The cleaners never replaced our dirty cups or glasses so everyone around us, including us, had to resort to leaving dirty utensils in the corridor or bringing them downstairs to the sink in order for them to not be left there. There was some carpet staining and wall stains next to our bed. I love the free snacks/wines/drinks available for guests, although it would have been nice if I had a gluten free snacks through the day that was more than just unsalted nuts and gluten free crackers for me as as a coeliac, since other guests got a nice variety snacks such as sweets, pastries, biscuits, nuts, cheese, dates, cake and much much more. Albert heijn has a wide range of gluten free snacks beyond just nuts and crackers (such as gluten free cakes and biscuits) which I ended up purchasing. I did not eat the unsalted nuts or crackers as that is not tasty to me and I ended up purchasing my own snacks from albert heijn, which is a bit sad because I paid the same money as other guests did to get the snacks included. And since the hotel is not cheap, it is disheartening that the the value for money therefore for me was not the same as the others. I do feel like I should have received sone kind of refund for having to be a guest who did not get the same snack benefits as the others did. Breakfast staff were very lovely and accommodating, though. Despite these shortcomings, I highly recommend jan luyken. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

We felt at home. Never felt like we were at a hotel. Loved the open bar and snacks. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Always available to help. The breakfast was amazing! Excellent location for all the museums.

Convenient, quiet location. Generous and charming amenities. Peaceful and charming atmosphere.

Some fixtures were worn around the edges and the art in the room was cliché.

Breakfast room is overcrowded and staff can not keep up with needed bowls, plates, food, etc..... Common areas are airless, so if one person has a cold everyone else is sure to have good exposure. There is no fresh air ventilation system other than opening a window or door, which others will promptly close because of the draft. Rooms and bathrooms are tiny and cramped; better design could make them more usable/practical.
