Hotel Excelsior Pavia

Accommodation - the room was spacious but only one chair hard chair to sit on when there is room for more comfortable chairs. Location - great for the train station and only 5 minutes walk to the beginning of the town centre. Breakfast was not included in the price but was €8. Even though everything tasted like it had come out of a supermarket there was sufficient choice and a good coffee machine.

I can only judge my experience staying 3 nights in room 110. My husband is hard of hearing and didn’t experience my problems. The room is at top of stairs by reception. I was disturbed on the first night by loud talking by reception on the staff changeover from 22:45 until midnight but left it until the morning to complain. and the staff shrugged their shoulders. On the last night I asked politely at 10:45 and again at 11:30 (not so politely)if they would keep the noise down. Not only did they carry on in reception until 11:45, it was our misfortune that the guests were next to/above our room and carried on until 01:35. I could not get to sleep. Airco only works when the key is in the room and is not that effective. We had mixed results when trying to connect to a secure WiFi.

Staff are very kind, helpful and informative. The hotel is very close to the train station which was great for me. Beds were comfortable.

The main thing that bothered me was the shower, the shower in my room was flooding inside the bathroom as there is no curve, the floor is flat so the water just flows outside the shower (there’s no shower door). Also, there was quite a lot of mold spots in the shower, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also because of the standing still water. One thing that also caught me by surprise was that the room I got was not the room I booked for, at least not by looks. In the hotel’s booking page you can clearly see decorated, modern, new rooms, but to my surprise I got an old decor room. If you scroll all the way to the very end of the pictures you can see it.

My window was facing the square in front of the train station which means it was very loud at times.
