Hotel San Giorgio

The staff was outstanding, the breakfast was amazing, the location was perfect, the place was clean and comfortable. They allowed us to sit and eat items we purchased at the grocery store nearby during the siesta hours.

There were a few items that were not working and because of the holiday weekend, it took until the day we left for them to be resolved. The elevator was out of service, we had issues with the shower, and the refrigerator was not working.

Only 15 minutes walk to the old town. Easy parking at the rear of the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Blackout curtains were very effective. There was a good a la carte selection in the restaurant. You do have to book on arrival.

The room was large with a massive balcony at the front of the hotel. It was clean but the whole building is dated and looks somewhat run down. Work is being done so it might improve. The staff were were nice but not all were as forthcoming with information as they might have been. Breakfast was okay. on our sightseeing day, we asked for a taxi to take us to the castle so we could look around and wander back through the town. The receptionist told us that the castle was closed for renovation (and it was raining) but offered to ask his friend the taxi driver to make a tour of the city for us in his taxi. We agreed a price and we were pleasantly surprised at what we were shown; there are some very interesting aspects to Campobasso that we would not have found on our own. It was well worth the time and effort. Google Translate came into its own that day.

We had expected there to be a restaurant open for dinner as it was listed in the most popular facilities on Booking.com but we were informed that it was closed due to work taking place over the summer period. Had I known that before booking I would have looked elsewhere. It was only open for breakfast. The hotel was located further from the centre of the old town than I'd expected so we needed to take taxis to and from the centre. Whilst that is well worth visiting, it cost €10 going in and €15 to come back! It soon adds up.
