Nearby Ulverston is an ancient market town, which still holds a streetmarket every Thursday and Saturday. Today, this settlement is best known as a "festival town", with events throughout the year, and as the birthplace of Stan Laurel. As a result, it is now home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world.
