Room was tidy clean and comfortable, good food and a good selection of local beers on tap - staff were very helpful - only 4 mins walk from railway station
Stairs up to rooms quite steep and narrow. but ok if you are fit and able bodied.

Slightly Disappointed
One-night B&B stay – July 2024
My wife and I received a pleasant and professional welcome from the gentleman who checked us in, showed us to our room, and explained how to access the property after the pub had closed.
However, we were surprised to be told that if we wanted milk for the tea and coffee facilities in the room, we would need to go to the bar and ask for it. In our experience, it is more usual for sealed milk portions to be provided in the room. We also found it unusual that no bottled water was supplied.
From memory, we stayed in Room 2. The room was generally clean, although I had some concerns about the condition of the carpet (see photos). The biggest issue was that the floor was on a very noticeable slope. It was so pronounced that, when lying in bed, it genuinely felt as though your feet were higher than your head. The television was particularly small, and the light switch was badly cracked. On a positive note, the room was very quiet, which helped ensure a good night's sleep.
Access to the room involved passing the pub kitchen door, and it was possible to see directly into the kitchen. We felt this area could have been screened off better or that the door could have been kept closed when food was not being served. On a couple of occasions the door was left open. Bags of laundry had also been left at the bottom of the staircase leading to our room, which did not create the best first impression.
The breakfast was very good and, without doubt, the best part of our visit.
The location is also excellent, being only a five-minute walk from the town centre, with a large Tesco directly opposite. Parking could be an issue, although we were fortunate enough to find free on-street parking near the church on Cross Street/Gas Street.
Overall, whilst there were several positives, we felt that £125 for one night's B&B did not represent good value for money, and we left feeling slightly disappointed.
Slope of the room.
Laundry at the bottom of the stairs.
Cracked light switch.
Small television.
Having to go to the bar to collect milk.
Looking into the kitchen as you walked to your room because the door was open.
Carpet condition.
Price
