Residence Vaal

A great hotel, clean with nice amenities. Breakfast was excellent. A very restful stay.

Although it was close to some great beaches, it was about a 25 minute walk into the old town. This was fine but with few dinner options nearby and no car we did find we had to plan our day around this a bit.

The breakfasts were amazing. Best thing about staying there. Lots of choice and lovely pastries and cakes. The room was comfy and the swimming pool was relaxing - not too busy and pool towels provided. The ladies who run the property were very nice. It's worth hiring bikes from the residence to cycle along the pretty coastal path into town. You can stop and swim anywhere you like in the clear water. It's only a 20min walk into the town along the residential roads.

Bike hire could include lights and helmets but was fun to ride without for a change.

We loved our stay at Residence Vaal. We stayed here with our 4 month old baby and the staff were amazing with him - so friendly and accommodating. Special mention to the women who cleaned the rooms (we didn’t catch their names) and to Jelena who even came in early on our last shift to say bye to us. The friendliest hotel staff we’ve ever had! The hotel is incredibly clean throughout and the rooms are big enough with everything you need. They don’t have drink making facilities but in the morning you can use the coffee machine downstairs, so this wasn’t a real issue for us. There aren’t many rooms which meant it was nice and quiet and the pool area was often empty. Breakfast was delicious - all fresh and lots of choice, with different items each morning (alongside staples). They also have fruit, snacks and water available for free all day, which was a nice touch. We really liked the location. It’s a 20 minute walk into the old town, but longer if you take the coastal path. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the closest beach and said coastal path - it’s so peaceful and the views on this path are lovely. The water is also crystal clear! The hotel staff also have a trusted taxi driver, Gigi, who is available for lifts at any time. We used him a few times and would recommend. He also took us to and from the airport. We can’t wait to come back next year.

This isn’t anything to do with the property itself but we wished there were more eateries closer by - this was only really a problem because we were traveling with a baby who went to bed early! There is a great coffee shop, Figment, about a 10 minute walk away which we would definitely recommend though. The property itself was a 10/10 for us.

The rooms are spacious and beds very comfortable. It’s great to be near beaches yet also have a pool at the hotel. The staff are all Incredibly friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are second to none.
