Private Abode on Beautiful Acreage with EV charging available
About this cottage rental
After turning off 4 mile and driving over the creek, you will arrive at The Bear's Den nestled against the hillside and will enter a spacious open floor plan of a comfortable family room and fully stocked kitchen. There is a private patio to sit and unwind, share meals, and enjoy the quiet and birdsong. There is a gas grill on the patio for your use. The bedroom boasts a king sized bed, and the bathroom includes a newly remodeled walk in shower with a large glass door. There is a daybed off the family room to accommodate 2 additional guests in 2 twin size beds. The bathroom is accessible from both the family room and the bedroom. The Bear's Den is perfect if you are hoping to experience the mountain town life and yet be able to retreat to a quieter space - or if you want to be a 10-minute drive away from Sunlight Ski Resort. The Bear's Den is uniquely located between Glenwood Springs and Sunlight Mountain Resort- each one about 5 miles away on Four Mile Road. The Bear's Den is great for couples but can accommodate up to 4 guests. Please note that the driveway serves 3 other residences, spread out on more than 10 acres (plus 10 acres of mountainside). The nearest house is 40 yards away. The Bear's Den sits on top of a garage, which is simply used for storage (not cars). We live in the next house over, and we have great relationships with each of our neighbors. The families include children and a few friendly dogs. Where the driveway crosses the creek, there is a small field on one side (for playing ball and running around), and on the other side an open area with horseshoes and creek access. This area is open to guests as well as neighbors (but you will usually have the space to yourself). There is no fishing at the creek (but there are several rivers in the area that boast world-class fly fishing). In the spring the creek will be much higher, slowing to a meandering stream in the summer. In the summer, the hike up Ski Sunlight is beautiful and quiet - you will often find yourself the only one there. Four Mile Park offers hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. If you are a runner or biker- Dry Park Road is less than a mile up Four Mile, and offers 8 miles of compacted dirt road which meanders through open ranch land and sagebrush. You can access Carbondale if you keep driving, 11 miles total. This is near the Spring Gulch Nordic Ski Center, a wonderful place to classic or skate ski in the winter. Ski Resorts: Ski Sunlight is a short ten-minute drive up the road. Sunlight offers a wide variety of terrain, with a friendly local charm. Aspen is forty miles away - and boasts four world-class resorts - Snowmass, Highlands, Buttermilk and Ajax. The crowds in Aspen are minimal compared to the resorts closer to the front range. For more world-class skiing, Vail and Beaver Creek are an hour away to the east. ***Special Note for winter guests - All wheel drive or four-wheel drive autos are required when staying in December, January, and February. Difficult conditions may also exist in November and March. We have the driveway professionally plowed and generally do not have problems. However, inappropriate cars can and do get stuck as elevation changes exist on the driveway as well as the possibility of slick ice and deep snow. Stuck cars do cause problems as the driveway services three separate properties. You are required to provide information about the cars that will be driven during the winter. Guests that become stuck are responsible for all associated costs.*** Glenwood Springs is truly a wonderful vacation spot with all its available activities. We are close to alpine & crosscountry skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, biking, rafting, fishing, shopping, or just soaking in the world famous hot springs... you’ll never run out of things to do! We are a pet friendly property and welcome both short and long terms stays. The Bears Den was a perfect spot for our getaway to Glenwood Springs. It was well kept and had everything we needed. The location was great as well. It's right between town and Sunlight Ski Resort. The owner is friendly and very responsive. I highly recommend staying here.

We came here for Thanksgiving weekend as a quick retreat and found the place warm and inviting. Unfortunately our toddler had a fever one day and we had to stay indoors but this is not a bad place to be stuck in! We just had a super lazy Saturday lounging in our pajamas and watching movies all day. There were some deer too which my son loved seeing. The location is great—close to what you need, far enough from the fray. Definitely will stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay in the Bear’s Den. It was easy and enjoyable. I hope to return in warmer months to enjoy the stream on the property.

Fourth time’s the charm, I guess. We tried 3 times before to book a place with a kitchen, because I’m that 1 in a thousand people that loves to cook on vacation. This is the only place, so far, that I’ve loved. I should also mention the king sized bed. Not too hard, not too soft, with super great quality sheets, just like the ones I use at home, and perfect pillows. I thought I was at home. Great TV too. Lots of channels, big screen and nice comfortable furniture. Terrific, big washer and dryer, too. We come to Glenwood Springs every 6 months and we’re going to try to book this place every time from now on.

Beautiful location. Very cozy during our October stay! Would love to come here again!

The owners provided excellent directions and the facilities were very comfortable. The autumn colors were exquisite.

The place was very nice, clean, cozy and welcomed my dogs. The only thing is I didn't realize the owners and neighbors would be so close. The information on the website made me think it was further away from other homes. Otherwise it's a great place to stay if you don't mind that.

Nice location just outside of downtown area. Quiet. Enjoyed

My boyfriend and I loved staying here! It was perfect for our mini vacation to Glenwood. The property itself
Is beautiful and well kept, and the house was perfect for the 2 of us. The owner sent very detailed directions which was so helpful. I loved that the house is close enough to town that it isn’t a long drive to get to main st.but out of the way enough that it was completely silent and you could see all of the stars at night. The next time we are planning a trip up to Glenwood we will be trying to stay here again!

Cute, clean and quiet. Except for the rooster early in morning, but we are animal lovers so we did mot mind :)

The surroundings are beautiful! It's about six miles south of Glenwood Springs, but the drive is very pretty. The house is as pictured--quite comfortable. Ice maker in the freezer, which was esp. nice due to the very hot weather. Just be aware that the driveway up to the house is pretty steep. The front door is a bit tricky to lock, and a couple of the blinds do not function well, but those are the only minor drawbacks to otherwise lovely home. The side patio is so peaceful and private. It was my favorite spot!

Absolutely lovely place! Beautiful surroundings, quiet, and very comfortable. Love the mountain views. Also really appreciate the king bed. Comfortable and quality furniture as well. Nice to be out of the hustle and bustle of Glenwood springs but also only a short trip away from all that it has to offer.

We wanted to explore this area of Colorado and this property was the perfect home base. We liked it so much that we made sure to be back each afternoon in order to enjoy the patio. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom is very spacious with a great shower and the kitchen well appointed. We would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to visit the area.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and loved being outside of town where it was quiet and peaceful, but still just a short drive to amenities. The river and courtyard are charming, and the patio has everything needed to relax. The house was spotless and felt spacious, and the master bed was very comfortable. We are already looking forward to our next trip!

Mark is a great host and the Bear’s Den is the perfect spot to spend quiet time tucked away in a beautiful spot, away from it all, but still close to where you want to be. The house is lovely and surprisingly spacious for being small. There were storms one night and the lighting and rolling thunder were amazing. We will be back someday!

Very quiet, clean, everything you need for your stay. Loved the location and setting. Take Dry Park Road (just a half mile west) over to Carbondale. Gorgeous country and saw a herd of elk.

Very comfy property. Minus one barking dog that didn’t last long it was very quiet. If you are in to looking at the stars it’s a great place. Away from town and very dark. The shower was wonderful. I would stay here again for sure. Thank you.

Quiet comfortable apartment in a beautiful spot near the creek. Easy access to Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. We spent the weekend hiking with our dog and everything was perfect.

It was in great shape, super clean and everything worked. Owner was super friendly and helpful and accessible but not intrusive. Good access to a lot of places between Glenwood and points south. Outdoor space was beautiful and private and the sound of the rushing creek was charming. We would definitely stay again.

My friend and I enjoyed our stay here very much. We loved the song birds, rock garden and quiet, cool mountain air above all. Location good for day hikes.

Close to all the fun activities Glenwood Springs has to offer, yet still quiet, secluded, and perfect for relaxing. The home is situated on a beautiful property and had everything we needed. The hosts provided great communication, including many excellent recommendations. All in all, a fantastic stay for our family at the Bear's Den - thank you!!

Absolutely beautiful property and house. Everything you would need to cook and enjoy a great stay was included. So happy they allowed us to include our 2 dogs. They had a great map of areas for them to use the bathroom in so we were able to walk and clean up after them with ease. Such a wonderful property we will definitely look into visiting again!

Great views, close proximity to Sunlight, well stocked. Great cottage stay. Slight cigarette smoke smell.

Spacious and comfortable, this is a great property. A bit off the beaten track, not for someone who wants to be in the center of nightlife in town. But if you want to enjoy a peaceful setting in the country this is the place. We spent our days skiing at Snowmass, less than an hour away.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Bear's Den! Convenient to Sunlight Mountain slopes and Glenwood hot springs. Cant wait to return!

We don't live very far away but I wanted somewhere to stay that is close to Spring Gulch Nordic area for my birthday. We woke to fresh snow each morning and the surroundings were beautiful because of it. Accommodations were cozy. It would have been nice to have some coat hooks on the wall or a coat rack. :). The property manager was reachable and helpful.

This is a great little spot tucked in the mountains away from the city, but still close enough to get into town in just a few minutes. The place was very clean and cozy and the host was very easy to work with. Definitely check the weather forecast for snow because the little road leading in could get tricky if you drive a smaller car. We would definitely stay there again if we ever make it back to Glenwood Springs!

Some newly transplanted relatives accompanied me for a weekend trip to see the local area. It was a great, quiet retreat that felt just like a home and it accommodated us well.

We loved staying here. We were here for a wedding so we rushed in and out a lot.The place is fully equipped with any thing you might need! It is in a quiet, beautiful location! We were very happy!

The property was just as described and the directions to find it were easy to follow. We liked being a bit away from the downtown area. It was nice to have some coffee grounds provided and we left our creamer to add to the collection :)
It was warm in the house when we arrived but that's because all the windows were closed and the floor heater was on. Once we corrected those is cooled nicely.
The only thing we were surprised by was the quality of the daybed in the living room. My daughter said it was uncomfortable and the squeakiness woke her. She slept on the couch for the second night.
Overall a nice stay in a lovely area. Thanks!
