Selected the Mermaid home based on location and pool. Grand kids, 5 & 7, loved the pool (right size, we paid for heating, and deep (excellent for cannon balls!). They swam every day of their visit, regardless of the weather!!)
The 5 min walk to white sand beaches was also a huge bonus as was less than 10 min drive to numerous restaurants. Beaches clean, wide, and kids enjoyed digging for treasure. When we drove, there's a free parking lots with in 5 mins as welll.
The house was perfect for our stay. A master w/bath on one side of the house and 3 bedrooms on the other side with a huge family room in the middle. lots of space to spread-out. An older neighborhood, that had flat sidewalks and very little car traffic.
Perhaps, the best takeaway, was working with the property manager, Rosemary. As the Mermaid house is a "mature" property, challenges are expected. Rosemary quickly responded and resolved each challenge. She was always positive and helpful.
We'll stay again if we return to Miramar beach!

We loved the area and hope to return but we will not stay at this house again. This house is very dirty and could use a little love. There is a garage but they don’t let you park inside. The golf cart is subpar, don’t rent it. The king bed is very soft and the others are very hard. I brought my own fry pan and I am glad I did. You have minimal towels and they don’t offer beach towels the pool was nice but it too needs updating. There are lots of rentals in the area in my opinion you should rent one of those.

Honest review we loved this house. I’m going to start off with the positives. First, location was perfect super close to the beach plus private pool. The master bedroom bed was so comfortable loved the mattress!!! The living room couch was super comfy. Kitchen was a good size and had most utensils needed. The bikes were super fun! Very clean house. We had the best vacation!
Now for the negatives: House could use some updates, the kitchen needs some good new non stick skillets and pizza pans to cook with,kitchen could use a dish drain stopper to hand wash dishes, the golf cart which we paid for that comes with house is electric however it would not keep a charge so we ended up renting a gas powered one which was amazing, pool had lots of ants around it outside (bought some ant spray and sprayed around pool which helped), pool was dirty and net to scoop out leaves and bugs had huge rip in it so was unable to do so, they did come clean it when asked to do so, it would be nice if living room had bigger tv with Roku stick so we could utilize Netflix.
All in all I would totally rent this house again. Very clean and nice home. Rosemary was very tentative when needed. We had a great time! Thank you for amazing vacation.

Loved everything, but the pool water was so hot in the afternoons due to no shade. I also thought the golf cart came with the price of the home. I will still rate it a 5/5 and will stay there again if we go back to Destin.

First great location so close to everything and walking distance to Captain Daves, Kenny D’S, Pompano Joes and a little further to the crab trap. The house is well laid out and rooms are good size. Very nice having a pool. The water pressure was great too in both showers. Using the remote for the gate is awesome because if you enter the subdivision from the dollar general side the keypad is on the passenger side. I would strongly suggest not bringing more than two vehicles as the driveway is very narrow and you can not block the sidewalk and parking in the garage is forbidden. We had three and had to find alternative overnight parking. We chose not to park at the Walmart and chance getting towed or to park at beach resort right by house. We found Geronimo rv park about 1.5 miles away that parking was 25 a day cash or 30 a day if you paid with card. This was nice they could accommodate a trailer or boat parking. The golf cart is very underpowered and if you pay for it they only allow you to go back and forth from the beach with it plus having to always move a car to get it out is a pain. The beach access is barely 200 yards away and to park the golf cart is by the opening to subdivision so only saving you 100ft. So not wort it. The beach access is nice they had a spot to park your wagon and water to wash the sand off. No Smoking allowed on the property. The beds are a mixed review from our group some liked and some not. Overall good stay and property management is nice.

We enjoyed our stay here so much that I would come back. Communication with owner was great. House was clean. The house is in a quiet neighborhood, great for families. Checkout was easy breezy. If pool privacy is high on your list, you’ll get it from this pool. It’s the most private pool I’ve ever rented. I’ve read other reviews that the beds weren’t comfortable but we did not experience this in October 2022. In our party we even had 2 people with bad backs; the beds were great. We also enjoyed that there was a tv in each room - very nice when we all retired for the evening. I also read reviews that the beach access was too far and I don’t quite understand those comments - it was pretty darn close for not being right on the beach. A 5 minute walk at most. As for parking at the beach, we drove our golf cart to the public beach parking which was a hundred or so yards from the gate, then walked back to the gate (or really you can walk onto the beach from the public parking area too). You can’t park a car or golf cart “right at the private gate entrance” but that is common in beach communities. Also, inside of the private gate entrance there is a place for strollers and wagons to be parked. And bike parking inside the gate too, if you choose to ride a house-provided bike.

For the weekly price of the property, our family would not stay here again compared to other properties we have stayed at in the past in this area. The refrigerator took a long time to cool down when adding groceries and all of our meat spoiled. The mattresses could use an upgrade. The golf cart paid for at an extra charge is in terrible condition and luckily after reading recent reviews before our arrival we were able to be refunded for the cart and had to rent one from a third party company last minute which added a large unexpected cost. No dresser or place to unpack suitcase in the 2nd bedroom. Overall, for the peak season high cost it felt like the owner is doing the very minimum as far as comfort and enjoyment of the property compared to other rentals we have used. Check out requirements were easy which was a positive. Beach access is best by foot as there isn't parking near the entrance but the beach area itself was less crowded than other areas.

The Mermaid House is perfect for families! The house is laid out nicely and there are plenty of beds and space in the dining room for everyone. The pool is incredibly relaxing and private. The house is in a quiet neighborhood with a quick 5 minute walk to the beach. Everything about this house is convenient and comfortable and the host is so easy to work with. Thank you for this incredible vacation experience for my family!

First time to Destin area
Overall our experience was great. The house was in a great location. It wasn’t a far walk to the beach, although I will say the location of the beach access was hard to find with so many gates nearby. It wasn’t the closest beach entrance but rather farther down the street than expected. The beds could use updating (not very comfortable at all, gave my husband back problems). Overall though the private pool and close proximity to the beach were huge highlights. We traveled with 5 adults and 2 children and had plenty of room. Would most likely rent this home again.

We stayed at the Mermaid House for our 2022 Family Vacation. We go on a beach vacation once a year with our children and grandchildren.
PROS:: House was clean and welcoming. Full size private pool with chairs for sunning and table with umbrella that is fully fenced in. Owners are very responsive. Neighborhood is quiet. Beach toys and bikes a huge plus, golf cart for transportation to and from beach. Unfortunately 6 of the 7 days we were housebound due to the weather, but the house is spacious and has a TV in every room, puzzles, movies, and books so everyone was able to find something to do inside.
CONS: Although the house is the 1st one in the subdivision and the subdivision is directly across the street from the beach, the access is a block or more down the beach road with no parking. The public parking is further away than just walking from the house and stays full. So we had to shuttle with the golf cart and the driver had to walk from the house to join the others on the beach. Vacuum cleaner did not have a bag in it which we didn’t realize until we vacuumed all the carpet prior to checkout. I was required to pay a pet deposit although my dog is a non-shedding registered service animal. Driveway is narrow and because you are not allowed to park in the garage or on the street, we had to move vehicles every time we needed to use the golf cart.
Overall, knowing in advance what to expect, chances are we would stay here again for a family vacation.

Great location, beautiful beach. Nice house. Clean and big pool. Whole Foods, Walmart and general dollar very close to the house. Just one suggestion, please change your cleaning crew. We moped the floor and cleaned all bathrooms by ourselves. The cleaning crew were only one hour . ( we came earlier, because of our flight , we were waiting outside , they came at 3 and left around 3:50 pm) . The grill was dirty , garbage cans were overfull.

The location is great! A few things were not great though. I paid for the pool to be heated and we arrived after 8 hours of travel to a very cold and dirty pool. I also paid to use the golf cart which is very old and doesn’t go faster than 5 miles per hour. Which isn’t usable on the streets. I ended up having to rent a very expensive golf cart when I could have just rented a car. The house was fine! Was not stocked with cleaning supplies though, trash bags, or washing machine soap. No beach towels snd limited beach supplies. The management company (Angela) was really amazing and did accommodate us above snd beyond!

Paradise retreat
The location is great! A few things were not great though. I paid for the pool to be heated and we arrived after 8 hours of travel to a very cold and dirty pool. I also paid to use the golf cart which is very old and doesn’t go faster than 5 miles per hour. Which isn’t usable on the streets. The location is amazing, the heated pool was wonderful and there was enough space for 2 families. However, The home was pretty dirty upon arrival. Anything above eye level appears to have never been dusted or cleaned. By accident I saw under the kitchen cabinets and they were caked with food splatter from what looks like the last few years. The baseboards were dirty and the carpet/rugs were not something you wanted to walk on barefoot. There seemed to be no pride in ownership of the house when it comes to the cleanliness.
