Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were clean and comfortable for the price we paid. Food was good . Would stay again and recommend.

Only there for 1 night so there was nothing to dislike. It was more than adequate for the purpose of the visit. No problems at all .

​Overall, I had a very positive stay at the Old Grey Mare Hotel, and for the price paid, you really can’t complain. The room was clean enough for the price, and housekeeping came by every single day to refresh the towels and replenish the tea, coffee, and cups. My room came well-equipped with plenty of hanging space, ample storage for personal items, a fully functioning TV, a kettle, and a hairdryer. ​A huge bonus is the 24-hour access door at the back of the pub. You can use it even when the pub is open, meaning you don't actually need to walk through the bar to get to your room if you don't want to. It is also really handy that you're allowed to bring takeaway food in through that back entrance. For quick food and supplies, there is both a Lidl and a McDonald's within an easy 15-minute walk of the hotel. ​Some previous reviews mentioned a long walk to the rooms, but that really isn't true in my experience. I stayed right at the end of the corridor in Room 7, and it only took about 60 to 90 seconds max from the entrance. That said, if you are elderly or have mobility issues, requesting a room closer to the front would be a sensible choice. I would happily book here again.

The room could certainly use a bit of updating and minor repair work in places, particularly in the bathroom, but given the budget-friendly rate, it wasn't a major issue for me. In Room 7 specifically, the door lock was a bit hit-and-miss, as the key would stick and require a bit of jiggling the door before it would turn. The toilet seat was also a bit loose and could do with being adjusted by maintenance.

The room was situated at the rear of the building and a pretty long walk from reception and was noisy, located directly above an aircon unit or something? The shower was very basic and i was almost scolded. lucky for me i tested the water temperature before stepping into the bath!
