Hotel Gritti Pera & Spa

The location is very convenient, with plenty of restaurants, shops, bars serving alcohol and small supermarkets nearby, and one of the main tourist streets just a few minutes away. Metro stations and bus stops are also within a ten-minute walk. The staff were attentive and spoke English, and both check-in and check-out were quick and straightforward. Breakfast was decent, with a good selection of local dishes. Despite the noise outside, our room’s soundproofing did a surprisingly good job of keeping street noise at bay. Both the room and bathroom were a comfortable size, and the room had a minibar, a kettle and a standard TV. The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly throughout our stay.

Unfortunately, the soundproofing between rooms wasn’t nearly as effective: we could hear the lift and guests in neighbouring rooms. Breakfast would benefit from a few more familiar Western staples, such as scrambled eggs, jam, juices and yoghurt. The room itself felt dated and in need of a little care. One of the reading lights didn’t work, the shower sprayed water in all directions, the shower enclosure seal came loose during our stay, and the toilet seat was loose on one side, the safe displayed "low battery" and never worked. A few extra pillows would also have been welcome, as we only had two standard pillows and one tiny one. The lift broke down on our final day, which prompted us to take our luggage down and leave earlier than planned, rather than wait until check-out time. Credit to the receptionist, though: she climbed all the stairs to our floor and kindly offered to carry our bags down. We didn’t need the help, but it was a thoughtful gesture.
