Carmen (Carmen's Place) and Marcel (Fishing Adventures) are immensely welcoming and the rooms are basic but perfectly provided. This remote location is in rainforest and access is by water taxi, which Carmen will rustle up if you want to go to other islands or a beach. Her evening meals are a feast, the whole place awash with consideration and kindness. You are surrounded by wet, wet jungle with occasional sloth, boa, wood rails, fireflies, bright white tree-lighting bugs, geckos, many wheeling black vultures and frigate birds and other exotic-to-us avians whose calls amaze. You will be changed by Carmen's Place.

we loved the hosts and the jungle experience and of course Carmen’s amazing breakfasts and dinner

everything was great about the property itself but the water taxi got very pricey because we were three travellors who were on a budget and the kind of people who like to do lots … it’s $5 per person pretty much everywhere you go ($1-$2 if you want to just head over to the village on the island - about a 2 min ride ) but to get to bocas or red frog it $5 one way per person . we will know to budget for this next time .

Carmen's is a lovely, I would call Eco tourism place to stay. The property is in an awesome setting surrounded by nature and is a great place to relax and unwind. We met Carmen on Colon Island and took a boat to her place. Once we arrived, we were given a beer and chatted to Carmen for over an hour before going to our room. Our room was up a flight of stairs that had a great view and was perfect for the 3 of us. We had an amazing dinner that Carmen cooked that night (extra for each guest) and chatted with the other guests while enjoying some wine and beer. The next morning, breakfast was cooked fresh for each guest and was more than enough and delicious for everyone. She gave us some great recommendations on what to do during our stay. I would definitely stay again! If you don't mind a beautiful rustic place to stay, this is it. Her husband Marcel was just as pleasant and accommodating. Remember you are on an island and getting to the other islands is a short boat ride away. Just as a side note, we usually stay at Kimpton and Ritz Carlton hotels, so this was a nice change of pace.

Carmen and her husband are very warm and welcoming people. She made contact before arrival, helped with the watertaxi and was waiting on the peer when i arrived. One day i felt a bit sick and she prepared immediatly a tea for me. All this little things made me feel like a part of the family during my stay. The whole house is located in the middle of the jungle which i loved. And i was impressed by the sustainable concept for Power and water supply.

Carmen and Marsel were Very attentive and helped us arrange anything we wanted to do. They really went above and beyond. The other guests were very interesting and we had lots of time to visit. There is no swimming by the property. You ‘water taxi’ everywhere.

Our room had lots of steps to reach it- 45, to our surprise but there are rooms on the main level. Just need to ask. Unfortunately neighbors have music going All night. Hard to sleep some nights. You’re in the jungle and it’s damp. Be prepared!

Breakfast was really good! The dinner option was also very nice. The air gets nice and cool there compared to the rest of the island or Bocas town.

The dinner is a bit pricey. You get a lot, but not everyone eats a lot and probably a personal plate per person would be cheaper and safer.

Carmen and Marcel are warm and generous hosts, happily offering assistance with anything you need. It’s a very special place to get away and enjoy the jungle, living simply in nature.

Carmen and Marcel were spectacular hosts going above and beyond my wildest expectations. Marcel fixed my broken phone. The food was abundant and excellent. They are special hosts and they run a very special place. Carmen and Marcel made us feel like we were old friends. We can't wait to return.

This is a wonderful place, great location in the nature, easy to get to. The hosts, Carmen and Marcel, create very welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and they are very helpful with all the recommendations. The rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast is great. Carmen also cooks dinner sometimes, if you are lucky to be there that day, I definitely recommend to join, it’s delicious. It was overall a great experience staying at Carmen’s Place.

The location and service at Carmen's Place are superb. A relaxed and calm hotel offering you rest and leisure is situated across the water from the nightlife and is convenient accessible by water taxis. As you watch the dolphins and sunset from the dock chairs.. The chef Carmen will serve you delicious meals and beverages. A must stay for short trips or a much needed Vacation of rest!

Charming and quite place to stay between the jungle and the sea, with a cute little private pier on beautiful and wild Bastimentos Island. Carmen, Marcel and their staff are exceptionaly nice and friendly, as well as very good cooks (the breakfast was the best we had during our trip in Panama). I fully recommand!

Everything was just perfect ! Carmen and Marcel are the best hosts we've ever had in our trips. Staying at Carmen's is like being part of the family. They took care of us at every moment. Breakfast and meals are delicious and the room had a beautiful view on the Caribbean sea. Perfection is at your fingertips !

Jungle atmosphere

Need good fan in room due to extreme heat and humidity. Reviews said snorkeling off their dock but water was always murky due to water traffic.

Where to start, everything was just amazing. From the incredible location with mesmerizing views, to the feeling of being around people who felt like family, eventhouhg it was my first time meeting them. The owners, Carmen and Marcel, are just extremely nice people and the way they manage the property makes you feel like your are on a family trip together. Moreover, the staff are also super friendly and it is a joy to be around all of them. Carmen cooks spectacular food and Marcel catches fresh fish daily, which is often part of the dinner menu. Moreover, the breakfast was really good and filling, accompanied with amazing coffee from Panama. It is worth knowing that the dinner at the place is family style and everyone eats together, which for me was one of the best things. All in all, I did not want to leave, as I really felt welcome there and had only great moments. Thank you and wish to see you soon!

Excellent place for those who want to spend a few days in the jungle and close to the sea. I cannot express how well we were received by Carmen and Marcel. Always eager, they prepare amazing dinners (we will miss Carmen's salad). If you visit Bastimentos, Carmen's place is the place

Great place at bastimentos, very kind staff, good communication, great suggestions for activities and excellent breakfast 😀. just a boat trip away from carenero surf. also really nice for hiking the island to beaches and jungle.

Lovely place, very scenic... I am so happy that I choose this place. I spent four nights and would have loved to stay longer. Great location easy access to Bocas...water taxi drops you to and from Carmen's place directly, so you can party on Bocas if you wish and return to the peaceful surroundings. Carmen and Marcel were exceptional host. Had dinner twice at venue and Carmen is a wonderful chef...and breakfast is filling. I Also reccomend arranging tours through Carmen's place. I felt very safe as a solo female traveller.

The only thing is that due to the place being solar powered preference is for showers to be had on an evening, which is fine generally. But there are times that people may need to be shower twice a day for various reasons, so consideration is needed on how this is communicated at the beginning.

Both breakfast and dinner are abundant, especially dinner is amazing with a wide choice of foods on the table to choose from. Carmen and her friendly staff really do a great job to please everyone. We also liked going on a fishing trip with Marcel.

A perfect location with wonderful view to wake up to. Nice, spacey bathrooms and the hosts are a true gem. Not for you if you don't want/like socializing, maybe a resort is a better option for you. Carmen and Marcel will help you with everything they can do for you. They "live and breathe" this beautiful place and put a lot of passion in this . It just wouldn't be what it is without them.
