Avani Rio Novo Venice Hotel

When checking in the Front Desk attendant was rude and lacked facial expressions. He was tired of dealing with traveling customers but that is literally their business so they should appoint someone who can handle the position pleasantly. we booked through booking.com approx 15 mins before arrival and arrived around 10pm on a Thursday. When booking the room it said breakfast was included and gave options to choose: queen bed or two singles. Traveling with my husband for our wedding anniversary trip, we selected a queen bed. Upon arrival we were told they were surprised we were given options to select bed type because the hotel was fully sold out. The front desk attendant then asked me to pull up my booking.com reservation and spent 10 mins trying to school me on what I had selected during booking. Because We travel once a month and stay at resort like places where they are professional and courteous so this behavior was a huge turn off. Essentially we were told we were getting two single beds and breakfast was not included. At this point we were so tired we just agreed and asked if there was no further accommodation they could provide we would like to go to our room — at that point the attendant offered us free breakfast and said they would have made a special accommodation for our anniversary if we were staying longer. As we were walking away from the front desk another customer in line behind us overheard our conversation and came over to us to whisper: “breakfast is always included anyway”

Everything was perfect. Nice clean comfortable room. Buffet breakfast that was one of the best I have ever had. Great location!

-The rooms were clean, hotel was safe, and reception were polite and helpful. -The hotel is around the quiet area but I would come back again because this is a wonderful decision in Venice. The centre is crowded and loud. And you can even got to other areas by either walking or taking boats. -There are lovely restaurants around (15 min buy walking). -Instead of breakfast, we got pastries from nearby bakery (look for Majer). -There is a lovely small garden you can relax after a busy day and buy some gelato from hotel restaurant.

Nothing.

It was walking distance 20 minutes to the heart of Venezia and 8 minutes to the train station. The daily evening happy hour h’ordeaurves appetizers were a nice touch. The breakfast buffet was generous and good choices.

Reception was seamless OK nothing special efficient, and staff was uninformed about the tours advertised on their counter. So third party research when I got to room. No big deal. The wait staff were friendly and very good!
