Lo Scrigno Barocco

Lo Scrigno Barocco far exceeded my expectations. I had a spacious room with beautiful sheets located on a quiet street just off one of the main streets. The best part was my host, Tina. She is a warm and welcoming person who takes pride in her work whether it is her cooking or maintaining her B&B. She makes you feel like a guest in her home. She will prepare you breakfast at your specified time each morning and it was a treat I looked forward to daily. She made me local specialties such as Il Rustico Salentino, fresella, and pasticciotto. My Italian and her English weren't proficient enough to verbally communicate, so through Google Translate she would cheerfully explain to me what she had made. She is an excellent cook and baker! The B&B is set up with an eating area where you enter and a room to the left and right, so there is only one other set of guests staying there which is nice to manage the noise level. Also, as a solo traveler, the location is near a frequently used street, so I felt comfortable walking around by myself at night. I stayed there for 6 nights and will definitely stay there on a return trip to Lecce.

Quality elegant double room and bathroom and bedding and towels. Very comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Well situated within old town.

No emergency lighting or torches/lanterns for 2hr + power cut. Hope Francesco will obtain these for any future customers/situation.

In booking .com the room facilities were incorrect by quite a few things, ie refrigerator, tea/coffee maker.

This is a frank but constructive review. Firstly, the pluses. The location at the heart of the historic centre is great. The room is very elegant - large, with a beautiful high ceiling and colour coded minimalism. The bathroom is modern. The breakfast is very good, with fresh fruit and home-made local delicacies. I can imagine that, especially in high summer, the spacious room with its shutters and air-conditioning would be a great relief from the heat.

However, my wife and I stayed for four nights in October and our requirements were different. We needed (and expected) comfortable, well-equipped accommodation. Frankly, a room with only one chair and no surface to put anything on - except the floor - and a wardrobe with initially only four coat hangers is not enough for comfort or convenience. Also the description of the facilities in Booking.com is quite misleading: 26 of the 41 pieces of equipment are not available. There is no sitting area. There are no kitchen facilities. There is no safe deposit box. We asked for an iron and an ironing board, and they were not provided. (Oddly, also, the room is not at the address given in Booking.com: it is at via Alberici 8). I think the hosts mean well in this property. But a room which is a work of art is no substitute for a comfortable space to live in.
