Le Domaine de Mestré, The Originals Relais

Absolutely loved the hotel. Travelled with a dog and there were lovely places to walk and a very relaxed attitude towards pet owners. Can’t think of a nicer experience on my journey from the UK to the south of Spain. Wish I could have stayed longer; may return on the way back. Chateau country and Fontevraud with its beautiful Abbey just up the road. I didn’t eat dinner there but other guests all reported good things. Very good breakfast. And of all things, there’s a beautiful shop selling soap and a soap museum in the barn.

It would have been nice to have coffee/ tea-making facilities in the room - seemed an odd oversight (first in my entire life that didn’t).

Es ist ein Haus mit Atmosphäre. Das Abendessen im Restaurat war sehr gut. Das Frühstücksbuffet bot eine große Auswahl. Die Ruhe war phantastisch.

Das Haus ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Die Sauberkeit hat nicht überzeugt.

The setting with gardens and the wonderful meal in the evening. There is also a wonderful Savon factory, museum and shop on site. To be noted the Restaurant is not run by the hotel and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The property seems to have different level of rooms and unfortunately ours (the romantic room) was disappointing. It needs a serious facelift - No kettle, no air conditioning (Heritage Building so cannot put air con we were told), a small fridge which was unplugged. We did ask for a fan which was noisy but did help. We came 2 years ago and had a better experience and especially a better room. Over all, we will not go back, unfortunately.
