The White Orchid Hotel

Friendly staff, very clean hotel.

The electricity wasn’t stable. Light kept going off. Breakfast buffet had limited options.

Sometimes all you really need from a hotel is somewhere comfortable to lay your head for the night. And then a place surprises you by offering rather more than that. I stayed at the White Orchid for just one night, but from the moment I arrived the welcome was excellent. The welcome drink was a lovely touch, but it was the warmth and friendliness of the staff that really stood out for me. There is something rather wonderful about arriving somewhere for such a brief stay and still being made to feel genuinely welcome. I wasn't there long enough to pretend I discovered every corner of the hotel, but I was there long enough to know that hospitality here is taken seriously. One night. A comfortable place to rest. A lovely welcome. Sometimes that is exactly what you need.

The bed a little small

The staff were very good, helpful, polite and courteous and eager to please. The breakfast was good, but due to feeling unwell during stay, was unable to fully enjoy everyday. Adjacent complex with big screen cinema, rooftop bar and 2 restaurants offering Asian fusion and more traditional options was appealing.

Some of the rooms were unhealthy with black mould. Was extremely surprised the hotel even offered the rooms to our party to sleep in. To their credit alternative rooms were found, but in general damp smell pervaded the corridors on every floor. One room had a less effective air conditioning unit which we did not complain about as it was bearable. All members if our party suffered stomach upsets at varying parts of our stay. Service in Afrobeats restaurant was unacceptably slow, one guest did not get his full order. Error on rooftop bar led to us being overcharged. Error on Check-in led to overcharging. Still awaiting refund payment. Power outtages, although not long lasting, were frequent and did not seem to affect surrounding properties.
