Mangia's Favignana Resort

Good swimming pool and very friendly staff, abundant and very good breakfast. Good location nearby several points if interest.

A lot of small details almost completely neglected. Examples are the common area toilet without key, the painting in the room given by somebody who never painted before, or the weekly program with dates and days in a weird order. In general it looks like the staff is putting a lot of effort to compensate a poor upper management, with a hyper division of labour that makes no sense ("we can't take your restaurant booking now as the person in charge is not here"). Some of the staff doesn't speak English and some doesn't speak Italian, and they had some clear issue in communicating to each other. Flagged as "pet friendly" but in fact "pets allowed" would be more accurate: when we arrived nobody had any clue of the implication of having one, and we were told it had to stay in the room and never leave - just to see plenty of dogs even at the common pool later on...

The place is beautiful and from the moment you walk in the staff are really helpful and have anticipated your every need. We booked very last minute (90mins before we arrived) and they took our bags, handed us some towels and gave us the WiFi password to go sit by the pool while we waited for our room to be ready. They emailed us less than an hour later to say it was and, when we went to collect the key, they had already put our bags in the room. The rooms are basic in decor but clean, generous sized and there is no noise from rooms around. At the door on the way into our room we could hear tv and screaming kids in the room next door but didn’t hear a thing once we were inside. We had the half board option and ate in both restaurants and the cafe as well as the breakfast area. Food was lovely and the breakfast in particular was great. There was one waitress who was there in almost every restaurant and she was phenomenal. Totally on top of things, seemed to be everywhere at once and made a fabulous coffee. We only stayed 2 nights but had some of the entertainment at the bar which was lovely given we didn’t want to go out of the complex. They have bikes and things on site to rent as well. The wind was too high for us to swim in the sea but the pool was lovely. They had lots of different areas to sit and lie out so it didn’t feel too busy or cluttered. I also got a massage one day and it was really good. The cost was really reasonable for what you get and the service across the resort was brilliant.

The food options for lunch were quite limited. Maybe a bruschetta or something simple like that added to the menu would be good.

The staff were friendly, and the pool area and views from the pool area were very good.

The location is not ideal if you want to explore Favignana. You can hire bicycles which is fine for the day but not ideal if you want to go for a meal in the centre at night time, taxis are unreliable and €16 per single trip. Generally the hotel felt like it was nice 10 years ago but has since gone unkept and is a bit underwhelming. The room we had had barely any natural light which wasn’t ideal and the shower was mould ridden. The air con came off and on abruptly coming to a sharp halt and then the noise to start back up was like a jet engine so that was ideal for sleeping. The resort was lacking in any sort of atmosphere, considering there was no access to other places there wasn’t anything to do on the resort area on an evening. The only evening meal option was a €40 per person buffet (which we didn’t have so I can’t pass judgement - but given the breakfast quality was low I certainly wasn’t paying €40 euro to find out about dinner).
