Casa Samay

Really enjoyed my stay at Casa Samay! The entire hostel feels very homey - the kind of comfort you get when staying with family or with friends. Having Miri around makes the hostel experience feel so seamless and easy - super super good communication and a wealth of activities readily available. If you're going diving with Miri Adventures you get picked up/dropped off directly from the hostel too, so no need for taxis/etc to the marina. The location is great: there's convenience stores nearby, and delicious food options around that are far enough away from the super touristy waterfront that you don't get price gouged - but you can still walk down to the pier quickly if you do want to. I stayed in the 4 bed female dorm: the beds are quite comfortable and large for a hostel, the sheets are clean and soft, and the AC works well. A strong fan is available during the day in the room and the lounge area while the AC is off. I never had an issue with the cleanliness - it seems the staff (and other guests) take good care of the property. A cooler for cold (!) drinking water is also available. And the little tortie Catalina is there to greet any guests coming in and is the cutest receptionist you could ask for 🥰

I did find that the shower water pressure was on the weaker side, but it works well enough (and is probably more eco friendly as well). There is sometimes some noise from the street/neighbouring building so bring earplugs if you're sensitive to that at night. I needed them for 1 night of my 4 day stay.

Fantastic location, really lovely outdoor area, so many extras on offer eg bikes, surf lessons, diving trips, gorgeous cat. Sab and Miri were always on hand and so lovely!! Everywhere was kept super clean and tidy, all the volunteers were lovely as well!

Great private room. Fun people.

It can be loud out the window with guests gathering throughout the evening. Bring earplugs and it’s fine.
