El Refugio de la Hacienda is the winegrowing family’s main house, which is over 200 years old. Majestic and nestled in nature, this special estate overlooks the vineyard on La Palma. From the Refugio, you’ll enjoy unique, sweeping views over the cloud cover to the endless Atlantic Ocean. A skylight in the bedroom offers a direct view of the starry sky.

El Refugio features unique, high-quality furnishings and impresses with its multi-level design and light-filled rooms. The house features 2 private, secluded rooftop terraces and accommodates up to 6 guests in total (1 double bed in the master bedroom + 2 single beds in the small bedroom + 1 double bed in the studio).

Directly connected via a landscaped patio, the studio features its own bathroom, kitchenette, and rooftop terrace, and can be booked as an add-on if desired. The studio is only available in combination with the El Refugio main house and is particularly well-suited for families with children or vacations with friends.

The adjacent El Mirador Panorama Suite can also be booked separately as a standalone unit for two people. The two sections of the property blend authentically into the structures of the more than 70,000 m² vineyard, which have evolved over decades. Separate entrances, secluded seating areas, and private terraces within the lush subtropical garden—featuring numerous fruit and almond trees—ensure unrestricted peace and privacy even when both living units are occupied simultaneously.

Traditional architecture combined with modern interior design
The original Canarian architecture has been complemented by a modern interior that leaves little to be desired, featuring various enclosed fireplaces, a Siemens kitchen, fast and stable internet via microwave link, German satellite TV, and a Dobson 10′ space telescope for stargazing—leaves little to be desired. The tasteful and understated decor of the homes creates a space to relax and unwind.

The south-west-facing, very sheltered property, situated at 1,380 meters above sea level, is usually above the island’s cloud cover and stretches out across various vineyard terraces and hills. Wooden patio furniture, lounge chairs, and the great outdoors invite you to relax. The pool, complete with its own poolside kitchen, is undoubtedly the most beautifully situated pool on the island. Enjoy the fascinating sound of silence surrounded by centuries-old grapevines, almond trees, and various fruit trees at this unique location

Is El Refugio the right choice for your vacation?

Our guests’ satisfaction is very important to us. Therefore, here are a few points to consider before booking:
- The access road to the hacienda leads, after leaving the paved and well-maintained LP 111 road, for another approximately 500 meters along a fairly steep concrete path with a few water channels. The final 100 meters then lead along a somewhat bumpy forest path.
- We’d be happy to help you book a suitable rental car. Regardless of where you book your vehicle, please note that La Palma is a very hilly island, and driving is much more comfortable with sufficient horsepower and some ground clearance. We recommend vehicles with 75–80 PS or more, such as the Citroën Berlingo or FIAT Panda 4x4 from Monta Cars.
- The Hacienda is only suitable to a limited extent for younger children, as there are many steps due to its hillside location and vineyard terraces.
- Even though some photos may give a different impression, we are not a “luxury vacation resort” but rather an organically managed winery with vacation homes.
- We strive to make our guests’ stay as pleasant as possible and offer various services that go beyond what is typically expected at a vacation home. Please inquire individually in advance about the availability of these services.
