Yellowsquare Athens

The shared spaces were really good and clean with a nice atmosphere. I was in a private double room and it was very comfortable and more spacious than I expected. I was traveling for work and mostly kept to myself but I would say there was a social atmosphere, many people were open for conversation with strangers. I had dinner on the rooftop on the first night and the food was good and affordable. The view on the rooftop is fantastic, and I really liked the layout as well with many more private seating options along the edge of the roof.

Just a small note for vegans and maybe others with specific diets: the breakfast was a la carte with one vegan option and a bunch of non-vegan options. I really appreciate that they have a vegan option. The food was good but as a vegan I would've preferred a buffet since I didn't enjoy eating fries every morning. My room was neat, but in terms of cleanliness it was a bit below average, especially the shower floor looked not so good. The bed linen was definitely clean tho and overall I was comfortable. The surrounding neighborhood of Omonia is definitely the bad part of central Athens, but I did not have any issues or see any drug users or homeless people around the premises. This hostel is really at the edge of Omonia so after a minute or two of walking you are already in a good part of town. I wouldn't recommend it for skittish people I suppose but for me the location was rather good as I could walk everywhere I wanted to go in Athens.

This is a great place for a city break in Athens! It’s comfortable, clean and the staff are very welcoming. We had a lovely balcony overlooking the city and were in prime location for all the best landmarks.
