Homewood Suites By Hilton Ottawa Kanata

We were upgraded to a very nice and huge, twin bedroom unit = #303 on 15 September. Thanks Patrick at Reception. All very clean and very modern and well appointed. The room had a good set up for 2 large travel suitcases. The stay is in a quiet and up-market area and makes for a good base for travelers with a car to explore Ottawa. There is limited hotel car parking at the immediate entry to the hotel; but there is more free parking on the top level of the adjacent 2 level car park. In the immediate area there are only 2 cafes and only one of them is open until the early evening. So your car will typically be needed to eat out for dinner. Uber Eats though could also be applicable here. Even a base room here is $$ for Canada. Nice towels; though the shower nozzle would not win any good design awards.

The included breakfast was ok to good but they make no attempt to segregate recyclables from plastic waste. Why not a separate bin for the paper plates and coffee cups (and then recycle the contents?) It is not that hard ! The air con / HVAC only appeared to have the one speed = Auto; which always made too much noise; until we turned it off. There are some tiny windows that can be opened for some fresh air on our still warmish mid Sept stay. We would normally try to avoid staying at any hotel that allows pets; such as this one.

It was close to where I wanted to be. It provided most of what I wanted.

The layout of the shower/toilet area wasn’t well thought out. Getting in and out of the shower was an issue for my wife, who has minor mobility issues.

AC was extremely noisy. We tried to open windows at night to get some cool outside air but a refrigerated truck and trailer was running outside, so we got noise and exhaust fumes. It was moved eventually as we complained. But AC was still very noisy.
