We were so impressed by all the amenities in this cabin! It looks like a little cabin but has everything we needed to enjoy our weekend getaway with friends. Close to Helen so we could enjoy the town. The owner was really nice and answered all my questions—we definitely would love to stay again!

Loved our time here! The cabin was spacious, mattresses were comfortable, and there was an entire game room downstairs. Our favorite part was the kitchen. Ah, the kitchen! For those who enjoy cooking, this was a dream! With all of the counter space and gigantic windows spanning the entire side of the house, we had a beautiful view of Mt. Yonah from every angle as we prepared our Thanksgiving meal.

Very relaxing. Cozy, quaint, lots of excitement (water falls, wildlife, restaurants was amazing). Will be going back! Toni & Jim the (p.o.c) was very helpful!

Beautiful view from a spacious cabin located at the top of a mountain. Clean, well stocked and labeled . Safe and secluded. The town was right out of a postcard and the residents were very friendly. So much to do during the annual Oktoberfest. Recommend the property highly.

This cabin was great. It’s not to far for Helen, also has an amazing view out the back window. The beds are vary comfortable unlike a lot of other places I have stayed. It has an air hockey, foosball and ping-pong table downstairs. Along with a little bar. Jim was quick to answer any questions that came up. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband, daughter, 24 year old grandson, and I spent a great weekend here making memories and laughing A LOT. During the day we explored the surrounding area and the town of Helen. Every evening we had the best time playing air hockey and ping pong in the basement. I discovered we are a very competitive family. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery right outside our windows. The drive up the mountain was not difficult, just follow Jim’s directions. The cabin is well stocked. We even saw one of the “local” bears coming out of the woods and meandering down the driveway. We sat outside around the fire pit the first evening we were there and just relaxed. It was so quiet and peaceful!!

This is a beautiful cabin, with a lot to do. We come to the area about twice a year. This was a very nice, fun, cabin. It has a nice view, with a lot to do.

The cabin was beautiful, the location was breathtaking, and the owner was very responsive to a couple of minor hiccups we had.

The cabin is so charming and quiet tucked up in the Mountains. Helen in just down the hill. So many things to do.

Really great time and place. Close access to the City of Helen (Little Bavaria) and many easy & hard mountain trailers to water falls and beautiful sites. But even without that, this cabin was great for our family to just hang out and relax and play games, etc.
The ONLY reason I jumped down a star on the On-Line Listing is the information provided before are arrival about the drive up to the cabin was excellent... but some form of that should be posted on the ad. Our vehicle, a Tahoe, had no issue... but a family with an older van or car may have issues getting up the last mile of gravel road.

This cabin has the most beautiful view of the mountains! It has an awesome game room, hot tub, fireplace and fire pit. Close to Helen and Unicoi State Park. Tons to do! My kids ages 5-11 had a great time !!

We were looking for an opportunity to get off the schedule and do absolutely nothing if that is what we decided. One of the decision points with this location was the kitchen. We like to cook, so it was perfect for that (no going up and down the mountain at night for dinner). We admittedly acted like children our first night there by playing games downstairs. It was super peaceful, our own little corner of the mountain with a beautiful view.

Very nicely decorated and comfortable. We felt right at home. The game room was fantastic. Room to spread out. We had rain so could not enjoy the outdoors, but the outdoor firepit looked enticing.

The location was great, isolated and quiet. Had a fire every night and spent hours in the game room with the kids
The town of Helen is awesome with plenty to do and the food was great! Was our third cabin in the past three years and this by far was the best.
Will definitely come back in the future.
The roads were no problem especially with a truck. Just take your time.

The cabin was well equipped and homie. Love the fire place and fire pit .
Location and view were incredible.
The kids really enjoyed the game room down stairs. A great relaxing experience !
Town of Helen a plus!!!

We absolutely loved this cabin, and our host was awesome. The only major downside was the road to the cabin. I get motion sickness, and one night with thick fog did me in…sick all New Year’s Eve. The stress of encountering another car on the windy, steep trail and having to back out while dark limited our trips to Helen during daylight hours. But I enjoyed the cabin so much we didn’t mind too much: with building a fire, cooking dinner, playing games, and enjoying the hot tub. If you like some adventure, you will love this location.

Well like to have never got up that old road losing track. Got all the way finally after having to back the hill then trying again to get back up. Code would not work nor phone service. So better business and chamber of commerce will be contacted. We ended up having to rent a hotel for our stay never again will I use vrbo nor Jim shepherd cabins . We also told several people in the town what happened to us about no refund and the whole road deal and all. Very disappointed should get a refund due to our circumstances. I would be ashamed to say I even rent a place like that and location as sorry as it is. I’m a Christian widow. God takes good care of me and he will do the same for you all in due time.God bless you!

Best mountain house I have stayed in. But road to house was challenging and dangerous. Had to get speed up to get over hill. Can’t see on coming traffic but the place itself was clean and really nice.

This property was perfect for our Fall Getaway. The cabin was set in a beautiful location with a wonderful view. It was clean and well maintained. When we inquired of the property owner about early check- in he was quick to respond and accommodating. The owner also provided detailed check-in directions to us a few days prior which were very helpful. Overall a great experience and we will definitely will be renting from this location in the future.

Wonderful cabin, beautiful views, lots to do or just relax. My husband and I stayed with another couple and we had a wonderful five-day mountain getaway. This cabin is perfectly appointed with everything you need, the wilderness theming is perfect, and we loved the basement area with ping pong table and air hockey and fooseball, along with a bar area, so many a game was enjoyed! The firepit was a great way to end a relaxing day, and the hot tub was also enjoyed. The little German themed town of Helen is a must-see, so great to be there in October! I know other reviews have mentioned the driveway, but we managed just fine in our little two-wheel drive SUV, just use second gear going up and mind the speed limit, no issues at all. Worth the drive up for the gorgeous view! Owner was very responsive and I would recommend this wonderful cabin to everyone!

The cabin was a private, peaceful retreat at the top of a mountain with amazing views. Since it wasn't far from Helen, we made several trips to town. The downstairs game room provided us with lots of competitive fun. The kitchen was well stocked and the bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the owners responsiveness and communication with us. Thank you for a wonderful stay at your cabin.

Okay, so the hill getting to the property is slightly intimidating. But, other than that, this place was wonderful. Beautiful views, a game room, hot tub, amazing kitchen...It felt like I was staying at a private resort. We will 100% be booking here in the future!

we had an amazing time at the Bear Lodge. Didn’t see any bears but did see some turkeys. The property is beautiful and in a great location. Helen has some amazing places to eat. Highly recommended this property

We went here for my daughter’s 15th birthday (her choice). The view of the mountain is great! I appreciated that the little things I normally have to bring was already provided (e.g. laundry and dish pods, hand soap) They have 2 coffee pots! 1 regular and one Keurig! There is so much to do at the cabin that we made sure we made time to enjoy it. The girls (15 years old) LOVED the game tables and the hot tub! They could go downstairs and have their own space. There is a great fire pit outside with pretty Adirondack chairs. They had a blast! We would definitely rent this cabin again!

Had a great time hiking, zip lining and dining out in Helen. The cabin was so comfortable and our family felt right at home. There was plenty to do. From s’mores at the bonfire, games In The basement, card games at night, relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying the view over a morning cup of coffee. Had a great time!

I stay at VRBOs regularly and this cabin by far was the best we’ve stayed in. It was me and another mom friend and our 4 teen daughters.
The girls had a blast in the basement playing games and hanging out in the hot tub. My friend and I chilled and read and just hung out with them through the weekend.
The kitchen was amazing! I always enjoy cooking for everyone when we travel and this kitchen by far was the best equipped that I’ve stayed.
Our only issue was leaving when my Honda did not want to go up that first hill leaving the cabin. My friend finally got behind my wheel and managed to get us over it. I just don’t have much experience driving on inclines like that. The owner did clearly state the last hill before the cabin is steep. I had no problem reaching the cabin, just leaving and it was totally my inexperience.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a fun, family friendly cabin, especially teens.
