Situated in Southern Region, this charming house for $408 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Herrukot, our holiday home built in 2015, is located in a gorgeous isolated location right on the lakeside. The house contains two separate bedrooms, each with very comfortable beds that are 90x200 cm in size, a bathroom with a floor-level shower, underfloor heating throughout the house, living/dining room with a pull-out sofa bed for two, and a completely equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, a ceramic-top stove (4 hobs), and an oven. With a floor area of 66 sq.m, it offers a relaxing vacation. Wi-Fi is available at no cost, as well as bed linen, bath towels, and dish towels. The icing on the cake is the 60-sq.m wooden terrace with its own hot tub and a fantastic view of the lake, mountains, and the Hekla Volcano. The house is somewhat isolated, though because of its ideal location in the Southern Region, it is great for winter stays. The Northern Lights are a completely different experience as there are no lights from nearby houses. Our farmhouse is just 400 m away, you can certainly ride out from our farm. The house is LOVELY. Simple, clean and has just what you need. Location is amazing, with views of dark sky for miles. Best place for viewing is inside the hot pot (naturally fed hot tub located on deck). Day trips to Golden circle were easy, but we also liked the property so much, we spent an entire (rainy, windy, cold) day there exploring and relaxing (after our overnight flight). Property owners were quick to respond when we had questions, and accomadating with our requests. The hot pot was VERY hot, likely due to the natural hot water, but much hotter than expected.

Absolutely stunning lake house with splendid views. Large windows, huge deck and a relaxing hot tub perfect for any nature lover or romantic getaway. Host Renate was communicative and helpful. Remote location is well suited for Aurora gazing. In a wonderful central location for excursions to Reykavik, Golden Circle and Vik. We are hoping for an opportunity to return to this fabulous house.

This small cottage has everything for a relaxed stay. It is in an idyllically remote setting but only a few minutes by car to the main road. Good shopping in Selfoss for supplies. It has 2 bedrooms and one bathroom. Ideal for a family of 4. It is warm and cosy and has a anti room with the washing machine and drying rack. This room is very good for drying. We had a lovely stay. Thank you.

You can’t beat the view here! Gorgeous lakeside views no matter where you look, and occasionally you can see sheep and ponies grazing on the hills from the house. The hot tub is wonderful and the house is great for making breakfast before heading out for the day. 20ish minutes from Selfoss and centrally located for many things to visit!

I passed a lot of guest houses and hotels when traveling South Iceland. None of them would neasure up to this slice of heaven. The view is phenomenal. The access to the ring road is easy. The interaction with the owner was awesome. I cannot recommend high enough. I hope i get to come back here when i visit South Iceland again.

Property was beautiful, overlooking private lake. A great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Central to many outdoor attractions. Host was very responsive, and property was as advertised. If we ever get a chance to go to Iceland again, this will be where we stay. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

This was a very clean, very comfortable, and very quiet place to spend 3 nights as a base for visiting sites around Selfoss and the Golden Circle! The owner is very friendly and responsive and made staying here very easy. There were only two of us staying, but it would be very comfortable for more - we had all we needed to cook our own meals easily, and the living and eating areas had enough seating if the weather didn’t let you enjoy the large deck outside for long. The hot tub was a great way to relax after busy days sightseeing, and having a washing machine for laundry allowed us to pack lighter. We would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a comfortable home base for activities around Selfoss!

Super cabin. Has everything you need, easy to acsess and the hot tub was very nice. Remember to leave it open for 15 min before jumping inn for perfect temp. Got to experience the northern light from the deck, and with the kow light polution it was beautiful! The cabin had a comfy and warm feel to it, and the view with the lake and mountains was peacefull. Thank you and come again!

Everything was great at this place. Renate was quick to respond and ready to help with anything we needed. The hot tub was amazing and always hot! The only thing to note, is that there are towels but not wash clothes.

We stayed at this lovely cottage in February 2023. The view from the cottage is absolutely amazing. Looking out over the lake. There is a natural spring hot tub on the porch, the water is toasty, and warmed your bones through. The cottage is cozy, with heated floors, cozy bedrooms and great bathroom/shower. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need but the utensil drawers are at eye level for me so I couldn’t get to them. Fortunately my husband is 6ft 4. The internet is intermittent but what else can you expect in the middle of nowhere. The hosts were very responsive and friendly and answered all and any questions. We were able to pet the horses nearby. There are shops nearby in Selfoss around 20 minutes away. The weather was not kind on our trip to start with, it was the end of a storm so very windy. However, the last days it was calm, with beautiful blue sunny skies. A lovely break in Iceland and we would definitely recommend this cottage.

Herrukot in short is amazing. From the big beautiful windows where you can watch the sunrise or the night sky, to the hot spring jacuzzi.. this spot is perfect! It’s tucked away on a quiet street, but still allowed us close access to so many attractions! Not only that.. but the beds are SO comfortable, best sleep I have ever gotten on vacation! Renate was so quick to respond to all of my silly little questions and never made me feel like a nuisance! My fiancé and I are obsessed with our stay here and will most definitely be back!!

We spent 4 days at this lovely lakeside cottage. It was just the perfect place to be away from it all, but also in a location easily accessible to the Golden Circle, the Westman Islands and many of the attractions in the South. Renate is a wonderful and gracious and accommodating host. Communication was easily the best I’ve had. The cottage has every amenity for cooking meals (grocieries are close by in Selfoss), is beautiful, clean and cozy. The hot pot is fantastic! Renate’s family farm is just down the road, and in season they offer horseback riding. I was lucky enough to arrange a private ride which is one of the highlights of our trip. So grateful to have found this gem! Highly recommended.

We stayed here for a week in September and had the most amazing trip! The weather was beautiful and the views from the cabin are stunning with the tranquil lake waters, wonderful wildlife and Hekla in the distance. This is a perfect base whether you want to visit the nearby sites or, like us, want to be more adventurous and travel into the highlands or to Black Diamond beach, to experience the full beauty and spectacular scenery this country has to offer, before returning home for a soak in the hot tub. The cabin offers privacy and a sense of remoteness yet Selfoss and Hella are only a short drive away for picking up provisions or dining out. We would thoroughly recommend this property which is cozy, clean, well equipped and in a superb location.

Our stay at ‘Herrukot’ was remarkable. The cottage is secluded offering spectacular views but close enough to downtown Reykjavik; the best of both worlds. The cabin is located in-between Reykjavik and Vik making it an ideal location to conveniently see all of the popular sites. This was the perfect home-base to retreat to after a long day of exploring. We loved soaking in the hot tub and admiring the breathtaking views. Renate was an incredible host. She was warm and welcoming and promptly answered our questions. She truly made us feel at home! The cottage played a big part in making this vacation unforgettable. We would definitely recommend this property!

This house is definitely for nature lovers. It has a great location, on the Circle Rd. near popular sights as well as close enough to town for shopping/restaurants/groceries. But the view is why we chose it. It is absolutely beautiful, looking out over a lake and pastures to the mountains and river. Loved the floor heating and deck. The house is comfortable and had everything we needed. We visited in the winter and now hope we will be able to do a repeat visit in the summer. Although we did not see the Northern Lights, the view would have been excellent if they had appeared. Renate, our host, was so nice and went out of her way in communicating with us throughout the Covid pandemic. I was invited to visit her wonderful Icelandic horses. It would be the perfect place to stay or call if you are looking to ride while in Iceland. Hope to see you again, Renate!
