About this house rental
Situated in Highlands, this charming house for $830 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Welcome to "The Highlands Buck House." We have gone to great lengths to ensure an unforgettable stay. We have been vacationing in Highlands for years and finally decided to get our own place with comfortable beds and modern decor! Our home was extensively renovated in 2018 with the help of a nationally known interior designer. The home has 3 bedrooms and 4 full baths. There are 3 living areas as well as a daybed loft. We are located in the upscale Bowery Road neighborhood which is one of Highlands best kept secrets, just past the Mountain Fresh grocery (less than 2 miles). The neighborhood has a land trust with an extensive trail system with several gorgeous ponds. One of the trail-heads is just behind our property. Even better, the neighborhood is on level ground and accessible year round. Our home sits on two nearly flat acres of hardwoods and hemlocks. We have a gorgeous fire-pit patio with ample Adirondack seating, a picnic table in the woods, and beautiful paths throughout the property. At the very back of our property, deep in the woods, sits a marvelous pond with inviting bridges and a bench nearby to sit and enjoy the scenery. The landscaping is lush and the setting is extremely quiet and private. The home has three bedrooms and four full bathrooms. On the main level is the Master complete with a custom walnut 4 post King bed (literally made for a King or Queen!) and a flat screen television. There is also a beautiful private full bath finished in silver travertine. The more than one million year old petrified sink will surely be a conversation piece. There is plenty of closet space in the Master and throughout the home. There is an additional full bath on the main level accessible from the living space. Upstairs there are two additional bedrooms. The Queen room has a beautiful reclaimed queen sized bed and a full bathroom with a large shower. The other bedroom contains a bunk bed complete with ship lights and an adorable cubby! The lower bunk is a full sized bed while the upper one is a twin. There is also a pack n' play in the closet if needed. The bunk room also has a private full bath complete with a custom stone wall in the shower. Between the two upstairs bedrooms is a loft space open to the living room. In the loft space there is a day bed with a comfortable twin mattress and a twin trundle underneath. There is also a desk in case you need to work or just write down your thoughts as you unwind in heaven on earth! All of the beds are high quality. The linens are extraordinary. The living space is extensive. There are essentially three living areas. The primary living room has a gas fireplace and a 65" flat screen tv with Netflix streaming. Then there is a connected Den. This room is more of a reading room, but also incredibly comfortable and inviting. There are plenty of movies and books to chose from while you relax and take in the view through the wall of windows. Finally, there is an equally wonderful screened porch with ample seating and plenty of light. This room brings the outside in and connects the main home to the deck where you'll find a stainless steel gas grill, another patio table, and plenty of seating for an outdoor gathering. The kitchen is large and contains essentially anything and everything to prepare meals during your stay. All of the cookware is high quality and there is a large pantry to store any food. There is also a large laundry room in the rear of the home featuring a brand new high quality washer and dryer, along with an iron and ironing board. The house is stocked with toiletries, paper products, detergent, spices, coffee and tea and more. The front porch is large and has several places to sit and take in the beauty of the landscape, including a cozy porch swing. There is ample parking on the driveway (please note that we do not include the garage in the rental. The front yard is flat and has a round driveway perfect for kids with bicycles, scooters and skateboards. The house is easily accessible in the snow as the roads and driveway are all flat. The Highlands Buck House is loaded with character. All of the art is custom and unique. The floors, furniture and accents have been selected with an eye toward the indigenous Highlands reclaimed look. In a nutshell the home is absolutely perfect. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Please note that we do have a strict no pets policy and that the maximum number of guests including children is 8. During Thanksgiving and Christmas we require one week rentals. Also, as noted elsewhere in the listing... we do not have live TV. We provide Netflix streaming and both TVs have numerous other apps that you can log into for streaming. Words can't even describe the beauty of this property. The home has beautiful walking trails and outdoor spaces. The swing was a big hit with my three children. The interior is even more beautiful than the pictures. Beds are all incredibly comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. We can not say enough wonderful things about this property.

We just stayed at this house with our children for a week, and it was perfect! The best place we have stayed in the Highlands so far! Will definitely stay there again. Agree with another review that the pictures don’t do it justice… even more beautiful, comfortable and clean in person. We really enjoyed the property too, especially the fire pit, and the proximity to town and the land trust hiking trails. Great stay overall!

It was our first time in the Highlands and at The Buck House which neither disappointed. The house, property and location to town exceded our expectations. Our kids had the best time exploring the property and nearby trails. The house itself was perfect for our family and in laws to feel comfortable and cozy. Such a wonderful vacation rental and we hope to return again!

It sounds cliche but the pictures truly don’t do this place justice. Our young kids loved exploring the trails in the backyard as the rest of the family hung out by the fire pit. The house feels very private but is only 5 minutes from town. Everything is high end and feels like a real home instead of a rental. Leslie was a great host. Will definitely try to book again when we are in the area.

It had everything we needed during our stay. It was beautifully remodeled with beautiful furnishings. The check in / check out process was very easy

We loved our time at Buck House. I’ve stayed at several VRBOs in Highlands over the years and this location can’t be beat! The yard and neighborhood is just a cut above. We hope to be back for a longer stay.

We truly enjoyed our time at the Highlands Buck House. The location was perfect ... so close to the downtown. The rooms were spacious and everything was very clean and exactly as pictured. The property is very pretty as well. We hope to visit again when the weather is warmer so we can take advantage of the great hiking around and the outdoor fire pit.

Stayed over Thanksgiving with our children and had a wonderful time. House was impeccably clean, beautifully furnished and filled with everything we needed for a perfect week. My boys just loved exploring the property, pond and adjacent hiking trails. I loved all of the wonderful books for reading and relaxing. Would highly recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed this lovely home. It has been meticulously renovated, expertly modernized while keeping the historical essence of the property. It is close to town, has a lovely and large firepit in the back. The bottle of wine was a kind touch. The home is well loved and well cared for. We went in November but I imagine the large sun porch would be a beautiful place to lounge in the spring - early fall.
Only recommendation is adding a few more baking dishes or bring your own disposable.

Buck house was the perfect spot for a girl gathering. The home is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Surrounded by woodland sounds and brightly colored leaves. This property also is very centrally located to the shops and restaurants in Highlands. We hiked, shopped, and enjoyed the area from the perfect spot!

The Highlands Buckhouse was the perfect retreat! It is located in a quiet area, just minutes away from Main Street. The home was clean, beautiful and comfortable, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. One morning, we spotted a doe and her fawn in the gorgeous back yard. We look forward to staying at this beautiful property in the future.

We were looking for an escape from the summer heat of South Florida, and our family found a great place! It was a fantastic location, and we got so much needed quiet time. The home was great for our family, and easily could have had more people in it. We had an issue with WiFi but the owners took care of it as fast as possible - and actually, no WiFi helped us escape work a little longer. :) We would definitely go back.

Summer family vacation
Sadly we had to leave !!! A wonderful home for a memorable family vacation !! Perfect floor plan for 3 generations of family.. Ample privacy and sweet home closeness. The furnishings are lovely and the beds and linens were well above average for a VRBO rental. But, for us , it was all about the back yard !! Children loved the trails and the entire family spent hours at the fire pit! Could not have been better !! The neighborhood is beautiful and close to town. Before leaving , walk up to the end of the street,, a steep hike but the views and homes are fantastic. Thank you Leslie for a special time !! Lisa

I cannot say enough how amazing this property is! The house is so home-y, lots of places to sit and unwind. The beds were super comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The yard, the yard, the yard!!!! Huge fire pit, swing for the kids, string lights, trails down to a private lake and right across the street is over a mile of hiking trails that are part of the land trust. We loved every second of this trip. The house is very secluded, on a private street, but only 7 mins from downtown Highlands. The owners are so responsive and were very accommodating when we almost had to rearrange dates due to a snow storm. We can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful last minute getaway to see snow!
We found this home at the last minute to show our kids snow. The house was such a gift to us. Perfect for what we needed. Clean and comfortable. Beds were awesome which is a win in my book! Nice places to walk and very kind neighbors.

We stayed at the Buckhouse the week of Thanksgiving and what a wonderful time we had. Home is impeccable, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Our grandkids had as blast in the back enjoying s’mores , hiking and playing by the pond. We loved that the home was close to town. We were sad to leave but will definitely be back.
