It is breathtaking to see the multitude of twinkling lights overhead and sometimes, the occasional shooting star. The very private location, with its own private beach, makes Fossil Cottage the perfect getaway for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of a busy scheduled life. Perfectly situated on Whidbey Island's famous Penn Cove, Fossil Cottage is a slice of peace and tranquility. The location on the water was perfect for us to kayak. The deck was ideal for hanging out and enjoying the views at all times of the day. The bedrooms are roomy and the beds were very comfortable. We were there during a heatwave so it was handy to have the fan they provided but we were glad we brought our own fan because each room needed one. I had a couple of questions before we checked in and Jennifer was quick to answer (thanks!). We would stay here again!!

Good: Great location, proximity to Oak Harbor and Deception Pass. Great day trips from this location.
Bad: House has zero privacy, sliding barn doors on bedrooms look nice but they don't shield any noise. You can't watch TV when someone is sleeping. You can literally talk through the wall. Shower door leaks on floor. No toaster, kitchen is stocked with absolutely random things. Beach below is NOT walkable and composed of sharp rocks and shells. Neighbor to the right is a full time resident and REALLY nosey. He came over and told us to move our car (one foot) into the driveway. We caught him sharing at us when we were on the deck more than once.
Disappointing: We spent almost 3 hours cleaning the house the morning we left. Short of mopping the floor (couldn't find), the place probably took an hour to clean. We did this out of gratitude for the owner accommodating us and our service dog (even though she was obligated by law to do so). The disappointing part was not the place, funky acoustics, or anything listing above. That was all okay, we understand it is a VRBO and not a residence. Because we stripped the beds and washed the sheets (not required but did it to make it easy on the cleaner) we did a load of laundry and ended up forgetting our clothes. We sent our a Fed Ex number to her so all she needed to do was drop them off in Oak Harbor at the UPS store and they pack and send. She tried to charge us $50 for that?

This property was perfection for a quick weekend getaway with the girls. The gorgeous waterfront location and big deck provided a tranquil setting for happy hour sunsets, morning yoga, and lounging in the sun. Launching the provided kayaks directly from the home's waterfront was a huge bonus! The house was well-stocked and so comfortable - we appreciated all the attention to detail put into the decor and amenities. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We can't wait to return!

This place is great if you want to kick back and enjoy nature and relax with family or friends. Lots to do in neighboring towns as well! They had everything you need for you stay, even kayaks and a fire pit! Bed was comfy (and I have a bad back and had no pain). Had a bbq for one of our dinners and then hung out by the fire and did some start gazing too. Very beautiful!

Just the retreat that my hubby & I needed. Our second time here, the view & comfort of this cottage is perfect. We really enjoyed the patio lounge chaise chairs, when the sun was out. The frig & shower were left a bit dirty. Yet that was our only negative. This place is so peaceful & we look forward to returning soon. Thank you!

It was nice except it was extremely cold. Heat was at 60 when I arrived back in on Sat pm after a conference. Had to sit in my goosedown coat for hours while the heat finally made it to back to 69. On Sun, our last day, register was 60 at 9 am -- not 65. For the $$ I paid, i expected to warm and be able to control the thermostat -- not the owner remotely via a NEST.

Also the owner did an excellent job of outfitting the kitchen and the rest of the house with everything you need to make the stay just like staying at a very nice hotel!

The home is set on a peaceful saltwater beach looking across the bay at Coupeville. The cottage is in a great location for fun side trips. Three great state parks are nearby as well as the town of Coupeville. The home was comfortable and had everything we needed. Our favorite spot to hang out was on the large deck looking out at the water. Sunsets were beautiful,

If you are in need of a clean quiet place to rest, Fossil Cottage is the place to go. My only regret is that we didn’t book more nights. I would have gladly canceled all other plans to spend more time in this charming retreat.

This location was perfect for our 30th Anniversary!! The house was clean, comfortable, and situated right on the beach. Town was not far away and there was plenty to do in the area. My only regret-Not staying longer!!

My husband and I along with our daughter came to visit her fiancé who is in the navy and stationed in Oak Harbor. The home was perfectly located and absolutely beautiful. Sitting outside was peaceful and a great way to relax! We hope to come again and stay!
