Casa Monacita was a beautiful place to stay, and only a 10 minute walk to the ocean. So clean and a lovely view. Mona and her assistant were so helpful — we couldn’t have asked for better hosts. 10/10 would stay here again :)

Stayed here for a couple of nights in May 2023. Great location in Tamarindo. Close enough to everything, far enough from the noise and crowds. Beautiful views from the patio area. Very friendly host.

Mona was very accommodating and the property offered great AC, laundry, WiFi, and a quiet, peaceful location with howler monkey sightings.
It is uphill, which makes for a great view, and while very manageable for the modestly fit individual, I would recommend a taxi or car if you have luggage, or walking uphill on a dirt road isn’t your thing.
Mona is fantastic and the vibe is great! Awesome value and would absolutely stay again.

The casita was very clean and private. There was much outdoor space for relaxing with gorgeous views and the pool was perfect for cooling off. Monkeys came to visit most days in the trees right outside our room.
As others have mentioned the hill leading to the casa was quite steep and rugged, we chose to drive our rental car to town.
Mona is a delight and so helpful and quick to respond. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had such a wonderful stay. Mona was very responsive when I had questions and was more than accommodating. The best part was waking up to the monkeys right next to our room in the tree. The room was comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. The view up on the mountain is breathtaking and the sunsets were surreal. The busy little town of Tamarindo is a short 10 minute walk away. Be prepared to walk up and down a rather steep hill to get from your room to the beach. It was worth the uphill walks because we were able to enjoy the nature and sunsets on the mountain. We had a fabulous time and can’t wait to visit again.

Mona was an awesome hostess. Her place was a paradise, very clean, and the views were just gorgeous. I rented a car (as I always do) and it was about a two minute drive for my sunrise walk on the beach and breakfast (this place was her recommendation) afterward almost every day.
It was perfect for me and my stay.

We ended up asking for a full refund and checked ourselves at a close by resort because it was getting dark and we don’t know the area. . She apologized many times and credited us our money back with an extra $50 for our troubles. It turns out that her assistant was supposed to show up and they didn’t. We think Mona is sincere and all the other reviews love her. Maybe she needs a new assistant? All we know is that we ended up spending twice as much at a resort that wasn’t in our planned budget. Although, it was very nice and we loved it. Oh well!

We enjoyed hanging out there and dipping in the pool, then walking down the hill to go surfing and shop or eat at many restaurants. Mona is really nice and speaks excellent English. Monkeys and all kinds of birds are observed from the deck in front of the Casa. Truly a lovely experience!

A Great Find!
The team at Casa Monacita are amazing: helpful; accommodating; entertaining. The location was perfect for us. A little bit off the beach but within walking distance of surf, sand, good food. Very doable for these two seniors! We enjoyed hanging out in the hammocks in the shade and enjoying the view before a refreshing dip in the small but picaresque pool. And the view!!!! This place is a repeater!!!

Exceptional hosting & great property!!
We had such an amazing time here!! Mona & Miguel went out of their way to make sure we were beyond taken care of. Our group of 9 adults loved the property and was perfect for our adventure. The place has magical sunsets on the terrace (we recommend grilling out up there), the pool is refreshing and an amazing place to hang during the hot sun, and you can see monkeys, iguanas and more roam the property.
Yes, there are stairs and anyone who gives a 1 star review based on that should not be considered...
It is Costa Rica, there are stairs and uneven ground everywhere!!
Mona made sure we had access to surfboard lessons/rentals, excellent tours and transportation when needed. When we come back to Tamarindo, we are definitely staying here again!!

Great location with beautiful views
Mona and her mother are amazing hosts. They are available whenever you need them. The location is great and the views are amazing. The hill is a bit steep, but worth it for the views. We walked up and down the hill multiple times a day. Casa Monacita is a great location within walking distance of Tamarindo and the beach. And if you feel like staying in, they have a nice little pool.

Best place and best hosts ever!
We had a wonderful time staying at Casa Monacita! The place is beautiful and has a spectacular view. You will want to watch the sunset every night from here. The room was spacious, clean, and had a/c. There is even a fridge and stove to use in the room. Mona and Momma were the best! They had spot on recommendations for things to go or restaurants to try. They even helped us book some an awesome sunset cruise! We had such a great time here and we know you will too!!!

Road to get up is pretty steep but we were able to do it in our car and we walked up and down it throughout our stay and it was great! We had the place to our self so that was a plus when it came to the pool area!
They had construction going on well are stay was happening which we didn’t know about. Started at 6am and ended at 6pm. Was probably only thing we were bummed out about.
I would most definitely would stay here again!

Great place to stay in Tamarindo!
We enjoyed our vacation very much! Although climbing the hill was a beast, by the end of our trip we didn't have to stop to catch our breath half way up. The Casa is charming and comfortable and the owners are amazing! They arranged our excursions and shuttles and were very accommodating no matter what we asked. Highly recommend Casa Monacita!!!

Priceless views and unsurpassed hospitality
Mona, Iris, and Rebecca helped make our trip to Costa Rica a dream come true. They were extremely attentive and even coordinated a night turtle watching tour for us. The Casa is truly a gem of Tamarindo, as we enjoyed many amazing sunsets from the rooftop and pool. We can't wait to come back and stay again!!

Fantastic place to stay in Costa Rica
My family stayed two nights in Casa Monacita. We thought the accommodations were very Excellent and we had no difficulties. Iris was an excellent hostess and made sure that we were very comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the view and the accommodations. And the kids love the pool more than anything. We would totally stay there again If we are in Tamarindo Costa Rica again.

Awesome location, Awesome staff!
We had a really lovely stay here for Christmas! Iris and the rest of the staff were really accommodating for all of our needs and questions; they gave great recommendations and booked adventure tours for us. We were able to bring our dog which was great, because not many places in the area accepted dogs. We loved taking a walk to the beach (short, only about 10 minute walk), enjoying the ocean view from the pool, and reading and watching the sun set from the lounge chairs around the property (all hand-built by Iris!). We were a little hot between the angle of the sun directly on the property, a bit of an exposed hike up a mountain to get to the property, and some small issues with the A/C (which they helped try to fix immediately once we mentioned it!) - otherwise it would have been 5/5 for sure! We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful outdoor living and view
The best thing about this property is the views from the outdoor common areas. We stayed in the casita, which at first was dissappointing. The view is of the hillsides, not the ocean, and there are a lot of stairs to get to it. However, once we were there for a while, I realized that the casita's privacy made up for the disappointing aspects. The roof of the casita had a great ocean view, and we spent a lot of time up there. The upper units had better views and fewer stairs, but in the end I preferred the casita because of the privacy. We also had a kitchenette which was stocked with enough cookware and dishes for basic meal preparation.
There was a very high outdoor covered patio for watching sunsets and it had the best view. From the casita it was about 3 1/2 flights of stairs up, but worth every step.
It's an easy walk to down the beach and town, but the hill to get back might be formidable for some. However, I lost weight during my trip to Costa Rica, and I attribute it to the stairs and hill. What's bad about that?
Best of all, the owner's mother, Iris was in residence, and she was a pleasure.

We loved it and you will too
This is absolutely the place to stay if you're wanting to go to Costa Rica. Pat and Eryn are wonderful hosts! Yes the house is on a very steep hill (but you need to burn off all the food and beer you drink while in Costa Rica) plus with it being on a hill you get a wonderful breeze that you don't get if you're below the hill. Monkeys come to visit at sunset and you have a dog and cat that greets you when you are there. The house is amazing! The pool is much needed after the climb up the hill and to relax and watch the sunset. Tamarindo has a friendly and alive type atmosphere. Hope you all have as much fun as we did.
