The Breakfast was a large assortment of pastries, yogurts, fruit, granola bars, coffee and tea self served in the lobby. We put together our plates and sat on the veranda and enjoyed the view.
It was perfect.

Amazing property and incredible location. Very fun exploring the building and surrounding area. Felt like such a luxury to sit on the porch.
Uncomfortable bed. VERY harsh lighting in room. Parking far away (and didn’t see/receive any information about valet). Beach access or pool would have been awesome.

So charming, we stumbled across this gem while looking for a place to stop off on our way to the Finger Lakes region. What a lovely surprise it was. We will definitely be back.

The Victorian Era architecture throughout the Institution is a delight! Everything is beautiful and well-maintained. Breakfast had a nice variety of pastries and good coffee/teas. There was plenty of room to spread out to eat. We appreciated the dinner restaurant recommendation and directions to get there, since the hotel restaurant was closed for a wedding. The food at 2 Ames was impressive!!
It would be nice if someone kept an eye on the stairs and the tables/chairs/floor to sweep up more frequently during breakfast. It's quite a bit of a walk to the parking lot from the hotel, so I'd recommend their valet service if you have mobility challenges.

The lake view was exceptionally good. The hotel is quant and historic. The location is at the heart of the Institution.
The bed was uncomfortable. The restaurant was not open all weekend. The front desk staff was far from enthusiastic.

We love that dogs are permitted to stay in the hotel. That’s the main reason we stay there. Nothing too special about the property other than it’s historic.
The dining room was closed but they offered a limited bar menu which was just OK. Had to find food elsewhere. What I really didn’t appreciate was that they don’t put on their website that they close for the season in November and don’t re-open until April. So I wasted quite a bit of my time researching dates in November and December only to read “No Rooms Available” thinking that they were full. So I kept putting new dates in their website looking for rooms that WERE available! All they had to do was say that they are closed for the winter. It’s very poor marketing on their part. I also had to Google if the rooms provided a hair dryer because there was nothing about their amenities on their website. I think they can do better considering that it’s pricey.

Charming facility. Beautiful view. We would like to stay again.
The receptionist was very rude. Was reluctant to give us any info about local spots, etc

This is an iconic hotel from the 1800’s so it’s made for the guest who likes getting off the beaten path
Food selection not very good bar food. Should have been informed that the dining room was not open.

Beautiful old hotel. Lovely grounds. Helpful and friendly staff - except at breakfast. We arrived on the late side so desk clerk arranged for us to park on the circle in front which made things easy. Restaurant server was local and able to share a lot about the hotel and the area.
Breakfast server was curt.

Coffee in the morning after a big celebration the night before.
Breakfast was very limited in offerings, out of fruit, no where to sit as the staff was vacuuming the carpert in the seating area.

Location and history of the hotel in the Institute.
Beds need to be tossed. Box springs had us tossing all night long. Felt like we were in a dingy.

The best things about the hotel for us was the location and the very friendly and helpful staff. We also appreciated that the hotel was pet-friendly. Everything met our expectations.
The hotel needs to continue with upgrades as financially feasible.

The location and the building itself are the most incredible things. You have to go through a gate to get into the property, so it is very safe, and the community beyond the gate is fascinating. The buildings are old and beautiful and the grounds are exceptional. I was there in the fall, and it was just gorgeous.
The hotel building is amazing, and well worth a look around. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My original room was above the front door, and I found it to be too disruptive whenever people closed the door, so I asked if I could be moved and the staff was perfectly accommodating and moved me to a room further from the front. This room was as lovely as the first, and had an even better view.
Because of COVID-19 the breakfast was a grab-and-go affair, with packaged fruit, baked goods, and yogurt. The muffin was amazing.
The building is very old and has some signs of wear, like some peeling wallpaper for example. But it is not very noticeable and fits the building's charms. So long as you know it is an old building, I believe you will have no issues.
