Fantastic place! Fantastic staff! Fantastic owners! Even the neighbors were fantastic! What a place!

Fantastic staff!!! Felt like home! Loved Maddie in the reception! She felt like a friend! Shared her childhood swimming spots, suggested hiking routes, outings 💕. Tom Butt in the reception had been there for nearly 20 years and smiled so much and always chatted with us. The owners Matt and Helen were amazing. Pottering around always with a smile. Most amazing stay ever and this is because of the people there. Everybody serving and in the bar were exceptional! We stayed both in the treehouse and in the hotel. The treehouse is such an experience! The terrace is peaceful. Gorgeous garden. Best parking right outside. Train station only only 5 min walk away. Gotta have a car to get around a bit. Quiet and peaceful.

Excellent quality of service, food and great location.

Very good dinner. Very good breakfast. Excellent staff attitude and service. Beautiful setting and super spacious public rooms Definitely recommend and stay again if in the area. Very well catered for dogs.

A proper window, rather than a skylight. A lift would help, plus extra handrail on the stairs. I husband has walking problems and there was nothing to hang on to for part of the staircase. They said they would rectify this.

Great but too many dogs.

great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable. The grounds with its ponds and river are fantastic. The breakfast was very good as was the restaurant for dinner.

Too many dogs! I appreciate that this is a dog friendly hotel but naively, I didn’t expect so many and not just well behaved small dogs. Dogs at breakfast, dogs in the restaurant, it was a bit like Crufts. if you are a dog lover and need a great dog friendly place to stay in north Devon, the I would highly recommend this place.

Great location, comfortable room, decent food and drink offering and friendly attentive staff.

Iv'e stayed here quite a few times for business and it is consistently good.

Would not recommend staying here if you are bothered by dogs as it does feel at times like everyone who is staying has at least one dog!

Low beams in vaulted room - not great for tall people. Second bed was very narrow and not suitable for tall person. Top floor with no lift may be challenging if you have several bags

Comfortable and welcoming break.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting within easy access to country walks. The staff were brilliant and provided everything you could need for your stay. The restaurant was great with the food being exceptional. The breakfast fare was plentiful including local produce all presented well.

I didn’t find anything I didn’t like.

Lovely old Coaching inn with lots of character. Staff were very friendly

Waited an hour & half for food on Saturday night even though we had pre-ordered and 30 minutes for a poached egg on Sunday breakfast. Also a twin room was £100 more a night than a double for a tiny box

Excellent experience at a perfect country get away

Great location in the Eggesford forest and next to the river Taw. Refurbished bedroom airy and comfortable. Excellent food in the restaurant, which has an open fire. Staff were friendly, helpful and really looked after us.

Great gardens

Really geared up for dogs, lovely walks down to nearby river, room was amazing with a back door to decking and access to garden, breakfast was plentiful being topped up regularly, didn’t realise different style of eggs were on offer until last day

We had a problem with evening meal, was waiting for long time, this issue was addressed by staff on the night, backed up with general manager next day, ended as lack of communication between front of house and kitchen, was all sorted sufficiently and compensated, party was pleased in the end.

Would recommend food

Staff very accommodating, both from the reservation side and the restaurant Had a slight room issue, quickly resolved by the lovely lady on the front desk who offered us some drinks while we waited

For the price we were a bit let down on the quality of the room, seemed a bit run down and not as good as previously experienced but otherwise fine for one night
