Location - Grimsey Island is spectacular. Well maintained guesthouse with a large shared kitchen and wonderful hosts. We will return.
I prefer a private bathroom but the shared bathrooms in this guesthouse worked well.

We loved this place in every way. The hostess, Aslaug, was fantastic! She made us feel so welcome. Our room looked out to the ocean and was clean and comfortable. The shared bathrooms were kept spotless. We went to photograph puffins, terns and more and the photo opportunities were never ending. We alert with a huge number of quality photos and couldn’t be happier. The only restaurant was also wonderful. The prepared cod in a different way each night and all versions were exceptional. We travel a great deal and our stay on Grímsey and Guesthouse Basar will always be one of our all time favorites! Thank you to all who made our experience was wonderful!!!!!
Nothing! It was perfect!

Close to a lot of places for a puffin watching. A very supportive host, she drove me to the village and back a couple of times, so I avoided being attacked by arctic terns

Everything about our stay was wonderful. We were greeted by our energetic, knowledgeable, and friendly host Gagga, and she assisted us throughout our short stay. The breakfast was very satisfying, and the common areas of the house were very inviting.

Not just for the beautiful island itself but also for this guesthouse. :)

This is a truly wonderful guesthouse - spotlessly clean, conveniently located, very comfortable beds, excellent breakfasts, well equipped kitchen,
light filled breakfast area, and even laundry facilities (!). What made our stay particularly special however was the generosity of the people who own and run the guesthouse. We were met at the ferry and driven to the guesthouse. We were also driven back on the day we departed. We were also told we could call anytime if we needed to be driven somewhere on the island. We were given a tour of the island as part of our stay (no extra charge), which included lots of information not just about the trails, various birds and nesting areas on the island but also stories about the island and the community that has been there for centuries. The warm reception we received at Basar, as well as from the other residents really made our trip memorable.

Clean, spacious, very well equipped guesthouse. The hosts are amazing.
+ The decoration (old photos, local bird egg) and books about Grímsey are a great addition for stormy days. :)

Everything was so great!!!

The breakfast was great! The host is very kind and helpful. The house is very well built and aesthetically pleasing. If your intention is to see puffins, they’re very close proximity to the house. Airport next door but I never heard a plane take off or land. Comfortable bed.
I picked up a seabird tick from the island, so I think a warning about those would’ve been nice. Carrying around a rod to slap birds that try to dive bomb you is also somewhat annoying. The hours of the store are highly limited so if you have intentions to buy something, make sure you aren’t late!

Awesome place to be. Great host, recently renovated, neat and clean. Nice room and good breakfast. Got picked up from the ship by the host and the property is at the airport so no problems in travelling there. Love this place and will be back.

We were picked up from the port and dropped off at the guesthouse (1-2 minutes by car). The owner of the guesthouse was very lovely, kind and friendly, and also extremely helpful! The guesthouse is very cozy, spacious, clean, and in a very good location. Close to the main attraction of the island - Orbis et Globus.

Another wonderful stay at Básar Guesthouse. The house is perfectly located to visit the bird colonies of the island, and it makes a perfect basecamp for photographers. The hosts, Gagga and Áslaug, are very welcoming and helpful, making the stay even more special.
Very clean house, big shared fully-equipped kitchen and really nice breakfast to start the day with!
Another big plus is the views from the house!
100% recommended!

What a wonderful place to stay for the night! I came for the puffins and the Arctic circle globe. I did not expect being welcome like VIP. Aslaug came pick up the guests from the ferry. She provided lot of information about the island. They were the on-call driver whenever we needed a ride. Love the host, the guesthouse, the people, the birds, and the island.

It is beautiful, comfortable and within walking distance to town and the Arctic Circle's Orbis et Globus. The host made a delicious breakfast and is very kind and helpful! She lets you leave your bags at guesthouse until ferry arrives.
I didn't stay long enough like at least days.

Loved everything about the guesthouse! The host, Gagga, was wonderful. From picking myself and another guest up at the harbor upon arrival by ferry, to giving me a tour around the southern end of the island + a ride to the ferry for departure-- it was a pleasure to stay! I'll have to come back during the summer to see the puffins and more birds as it snowed both days I was there, but that's Icelandic weather for you. The guesthouse was very clean and tidy, there was plenty of reading materials and beautiful photography all around the house to look at. Gagga made a wonderful breakfast for myself and the 3 other guests there. Everything was superb. :)
