Could be great- won't be back.

Warm pub, approachable staff.

The high cost of the food considering the poor quality of the food. Perhaps for some the food style would remind them of a simple rural life and this would be a reasonable metric. But, the evening meal in particular (R280 each) was bad. Cold venison pies, heavily salted food, stale crust (microwaved?), unusual meat cuts in the stew, vegetables mixed together. Just couldn't help thinking with constraints as they are (far from the city supply chains) that with attention to some excellent 'Karoo' menu cooking expertise, a simple list of ingredients (including venison and lamb) they could make this dining room sing a bit, and not just cater for hunting parties. Have been to Melton Wold twice- could be great as a catered family holiday. Don't need cordon bleu, just food made with basic love and skill.

Exceptional

Our stay at Melton Wold Guestfarm was exactly as expected. Beautiful historic farm house, neat and clean. Though we we're the only guests that night, we received the warmest welcome from Barbara and Kevin, along with the other staff. We were served a lovely 4 course, home cooked meal. Will definitely visit again and stay longer to explore the Manor and rest of the farm.

Unique farm stay

A Unique experience. The hosts were helpful and friendly. A historic farm stay with beautiful gardens on a farm. The farm house is like walking back in time. Was clean. We enjoyed the pool.

Loadshedding 😋 I would have liked a kettle in the room, BUT they do bring coffee to your room in the morning at a time you specify, which is so nice. Just because I have small children and would have liked to wash their bottels myself.

I love Meltonwold. I have had many visits there with family since 1947. I will always come back, but

I had a drink before dinner. A double tot of whisky followed by a single with water came to R95 which equates to about R900 a bottle. This is excessive in the extreme. Hence my toned down appreciation.

Excellent location far from everything

Location of this historical guest farm is amazing with lots of activities to keep you busy. Load shedding was well handled by the staff. An amazing three course dinner was provided by candle light.

Even though it is an amazing old house the bathroom might need some upgrading.

Memorable stay that reminds you of the style of days gone by. Kevin and Barbara are great hosts.

The old world charm has been maintained. The full menu dinner was really good - a gong calls you to dinner! The gardens around the guesthouse and the farm environment creates such a relaxed atmosphere.

The building is in need of repair and maintenance outside.

Enjoyed our stay on the oldest guest farm in South Africa.

The breakfast was served early , so you were able to plan the day. You had different choices for breakfast and we enjoyed the variety. The staff was friendly and helpful while serving. Would have liked the coffee station a little closer to dining hall maybe as they only served tea in the hall.

I am used to shower everyday. It is difficult to wash your hair if you don't even have a handspray in the bath. Understand they want to keep it the old way little but an upgrade of the bathrooms could really be a bonus.

Wonderful to stay on the farm again! We love swimming in the pool and going for long walks. The facilities are great for that, and for sitting on the lawns for lazy afternoon drinks. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable.

Old but clean and comfortable. Grounds very pleasant. Fascinating area.

The waitron staff could have been far more friendly and accommodating, including the barman !

Exceptional

Beautiful, well kept historic building furnished with precious antique pieces. Amazing garden, lots to do for kids and relaxing surroundings for families and the single traveller alike. Make use of the opportunity to stay an extra day or two or even a week. The spacious rooms are spotless. Good quality linen and comfortable beds. Delicious meals are served and a small bar is a favourite with locals and guests. The staff are professional, friendly and very helpful. It is worth staying at the oldest guesthouse in the country.

Like everywhere in the SA country side wifi signals are not always stable but the saff will direct you to the 'golden' spots.
